Hi,
In recent months I have bought items which should of been New, however I have been sent second hand items instead.
This includes things like sportsware, electronics and home wares. Has anyone else experienced this?

No
I've never experienced this when buying from Amazon.
I’ve bought used items from the warehouse and received new items.
They are just damaged boxes most of the time. I started buying ‘used’ whenever i see the option. Discount is usually less than 5% buy why not.
hmm i guess its only me.
how about items which should be boxed which aren't? e.g. golf clubs
Some items you need to tick a box in order to get them sent in a box
As far as I can remember pretty much everything I've purchased on Amazon has been brand new. A couple of books I've purchased had wear that made me think they were used though, but that's only two orders.
There was a review where someone claims the tent pegs they bought were secondhand and sold as new but the review was from 2021.
the last thing I bought was this that was used, https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0BCPMG1Q1?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_…, Ionmax Rhine 50L Per Day Compressor Dehumidifier with WIFI.
Not a cheap item, there was obvious use as there was dried up water in/on the tank which was dirty/moldy.
Was it sold by Amazon when you bought it or was it accidentally set to a third party seller who could've sold it used? Did the box look like it had signs that it was opened already?
You can contact Amazon via online chat and let them know what the issue is, see if you can get an exchange.
Online chat is useless. I purchased something that was described as having 30 PC's (kept screenshot). It arrived with only 9. I tried every option in customer service and nothing worked. So i left a review (and noticed quite a few others had said the same, while there were others who received 30). My review was denied. All I asked them to do was to be clear about the number of items.
Ah I see, that sucks. I've only used their online chat once, but that was also for the UK store and they were helpful. Maybe it's the Aus store that's crap, although I did notice they had an option for a phone call.
I do use amazon quite frequently, which is why I have noticed it. I buy on average 15-20 items a month, however I'm looking to stop this and already unsubscribed to prime. I have credits left which I can't cash out and need to spend it, hopefully the next item i buy is not used.
use the credit for toilet paper or paper towels or other household essentials
Second hand toilet paper smells like a shitty deal..
Next time don't click the credit my account box, but the refund me box.
did u discuss. with amazon? they will give you refunds and possibly let you keep the items.
i do get refunds, but recently it has not been an instant refund, however it was in the past. I wouldn't want to keep the item as i have OCD when it comes to used items.
It's just disappointing to see them reselling returns as new…
Just a courtesy to let you know that there is a reply button so we know what you're banging on about.
thanks, i rarely use this forum.
Used items can sometimes be worth more eg. unwashed women's underwear.
Is this still available?
That's only from JP vending machines though, not Amazon…
It's fairly obvious that people return products after changing their mind or finding the product unsatisfactory, and Amazon repackages them and resells them. You only have to read a bunch of reviews to know this.
583 orders since May 2023 and not seen this happen once.
I've had this happen to me a couple of times. I am extra wary if it is an item with free returns. Often it is poorly checked returned items accidentally getting sold as new. Amazon have been good about replacing it though whenever I've raised the issue.
You didn't buy the item from Warehouse sale, did you?
I’ve had a few sportswear items that were clearly returned items. One was in a plastic bag that was covered in (I hope) some sort of body lotion. Didn’t open the bag just returned with a note saying that was how it was received. Hopefully they didn’t send it to someone else.
Had encountered once, came with a green amazon used sticker, items looks all new but missing a bunch of accessories. Raised to amazon and got the stock standard response they feedback to warehouse etc, and had to return for a refund but amazon will not replacing it, even though its fulfilled by amazon. Didn't bother to reorder as price went up.
Has anyone else experienced this?
No
actually I received something recently with one of those no sticker to tell if sealed item or not.
the item inside was scratched up and had dust all over it (which could be just from the mostly cheap cardboard packaging?).
I purchased new stock though. so either thought someone had used it then returned it with change of mind "new sealed" and that's what I got. or that item has really really terrible packaging which damaged the product inside just during delivery.
One time I bought an item that I thought was brand new, came to me obviously second hand/refurbished. I went to my order on Amazon and indeed it did say "refurbished" on the order (despite it being the same price as new). I swear it wasn't on there when I bought the item (perhaps I missed it). Asked Amazon to return the item, no questions asked, returned and instantly got credit for it, bought it again brand new (for a cheaper price) again on Amazon. I'm not sure if what I did was morally correct but I swear it did not say "refurbished" the first time I bought it.
Just return it, I'm fairly certain Amazon just accepts it, especially if what it sounds like an honest mistake. Perhaps check your order on Amazon again and see if it ended up saying "Refurbished", perhaps you made the same mistake I did.
Yes, have had this happen three times in the last 12 months! On all occasions orders made via amazon.com.au and 'new' item ships from/sold by AMAZON US. All three items were US hardcover books. Not new release, but published in the last 3-5 years. One even clearly had public library markings on/throughout the book. I was refunded and told to keep all items received. I've pretty much given up purchasing any American editions of books now via Amazon unless they're within 6 months of publication date.
Amazon AU has become a complete sh!t-show too. Have pre-ordered a half-dozen books in the last 12 months for them to continuously change/push back the publication date by weeks/months (despite the items becoming available elsewhere on the expected publishing date) and then email me saying the item is out of stock/unavailable.
I'll keep Prime for other items, but have mostly stopped using amazon for books. Buy from Blackwell's UK with free shipping!
Probably poorly inspected returned items.
