Great deal, thanks.
Having got back into skating as an adult, I can't discourage buying these completes enough.
They're absolute trash.A good quality setup makes learning, or re-learning, so much easier.
I started on one of these, and progress was terribly slow.
After switching over to an anti hero deck and independent trucks, I've been picking it up way faster.I can't speak for these specific decks, but I picked up a Darkstar from a previous similar deal for about $50. Comparing it to the board I used to skate on as a teenager which I still have btw, I can't tell much of a difference. I had to tighten the trucks but that's about it. My old stuff wasn't cheap either, costing me about $400 like 15 years ago.
I'm going to say, grab these, especially if you just want to try skating again with the kids or something. Then maybe if you get super into it, drop some big dollars on a good setup. My concerns are 1. People genuinely wanting to try skating and being put off because it's too hard, and they've just bought a trash setup which made it harder, and 2. More waste being produced and ending up in landfill because it's cheap trash which is easily disposable.
I see your point about just wanting to try skating with the kids, but the difference between getting getting super into it and walking away because it's too difficult, is heavily influenced by how easily you can learn some of the basics.
I found the element complete was heavy, had bad pop, bearings were rubbish.
I want more people to skate.
It's the most fun I've had exercising in my life, it's such a fun, exciting, and rewarding hobby.
And that's off the back of 15 years of saying martial arts was the most fun exercising. But I don't want people to make it seem like an unattainable goal because they've bought what us ultimately a disposable skateboard.
Absolutely, you get bearings that don't roll, wheels that feel dead, deck that doesn't pop, trucks that want to throw you off. Save your money
Great comment ^^. I tell people who are looking to buy skateboarding hardware that they should consider:
you still might not enjoy skateboarding even if you buy a good setup
you will definitely not enjoy skateboarding if you buy a cheap setup
Second this - another aspect to think about is safety too. If you’re getting these for kids and the bearings don’t till we’ll they’re much more likely to come flying off
Fair call mate, it is also possible that my Darkstar board is a better-made board than these element ones. You have more experience there as you actually own one of these.
It also means that I can blame the board for my lack of ability now. haha. "I used to be able to ollie much higher, must be the board and not my age and lack of athleticism".
I'm looking for a setup for my 5-year old + probably myself. The boy started on the department store one for $10-20 but the deck grip has come off so it's just wood. It did enough to pique his interest though. Can you guys recommend some good beginner/value setups for the boy + myself. Just looking for standard popsicles shapes , unless you would say otherwise. Thanks!
Sounds like a skill issue. These completes are fine. My mate was always buying new decks, changing deck size, new trucks, harder wheels etc. in his illustrious search for the first kick flip but it turned out he just sucked. If you can skate you will be fine on these boards.
Sounds like skateboarding is like surfing. Those with skills or potential skills progress on so called crappy boards; those without spend $$ hunting down that magic board which will give them the skills, to discover it’s not the board…
Sounds like me and guitars haha that hit a little close to home.
These completes are for beginners or people who want a cheap board.
Sure, indys and these trucks aren't even comparable, but a single indy truck costs more that this complete board.
These provide a low bar to get you on a board and you can upgrade later. Not everyone needs a $300 setup to learn how to push around the park.
Perfect timing with the Braille drama!
How's that make this a great deal haha
Drama brings in the clicks! 😅
Also there's Tim Pool who bought a skatepark to spite some local gatekeeping losers.. 🤣
To be fair I wouldn't want a loser like Tim to sponsor my event either
@Dubsys: Why's Tim a loser? He just discusses the news being reported and also sponsors some pro-skaters..?
Great to buy for some kids, not really worth it as an adult - all of the completes are u g l y
I thought you were harsh at first.
But no, you're right, they're hideous.
Then again, you can sticker bomb it.
What does membership do?
Get a barely used second hand setup from marketplace. Someone would've paid $300+ for it and realised how hard it is and gave up. Plenty of good ads around in metro areas
Skateboard 3? When I skated we were still using Skateboard 1
when was that
Not sure who needs 3, but these are great.
