PlayStation 5 Price Matching Kogan with JB Hi-Fi

I missed out on the amazing deals last month and I am trying to find a good enough deal in the coming weeks. PlayStation 5 is supposed to be a gift so any money I can save is money that remains in my pocket.

I tried to (unsuccessfully) argue my case with a JB Hi-Fi live chat rep about trying to price match with Kogan listed here :

My understanding is that Kogan imports grey stock and hence it cannot be price matched. Which is fair.

With this particular listing, which has the exact same model number, is sold by Kogan 'Australia' and has the same Sony warranty; on what grounds can JB refuse a price match?

I have read their price match policy which has exclusions listed for grey imports (not importers).

Has someone done this before successfully?

If all else fails, what are my options to save as much money as possible on this purchase?

  • Is the one listed on amazon for the same price any different?
    Eg
    https://amzn.asia/d/0aHWFE5a

    • Kogan one has an extra controller

Based on actual listed SKU or details?
The picture for the listing just shows what comes in the box as standard, same as the Amazon listing (and most other standard listings from other retailers)

If I was a betting person I'd say that the Kogan listing you linked doesn't, as when you look at the sold out one with the extra controller it shows the same format/description with 2 controllers in the 'whats in the box' section, and the one you linked just says 1 controller for 'whats in the box'

I’m flat out getting jb to price match a dual shock 4 with bigw’s catalogue when bigw is 1 minute walk in same shopping centre. (I had a stash of discounted jb cards)

I tried to buy a monitor and price match Dell. Guy asked the manager and they refused. Offered to meet halfway. I left and made a call to the phone sales team. Came back in and the manager had a funny look when processing my click and collect. He even muttered how they shouldn't have done that lol. It wasn't even a huge drop. The month before they were selling it even cheaper.

      • Retail is funny, sometimes there’s supplier promos or support, or other incentives at head offices to coordinate with sales/ clear stock etc - and if there isn’t they just work off their ‘cost’ to determine if they want to take the deal. I’ve tried 3 times with jobs online team, and twice they managed to not just match but offered to slightly beat the deal. The other time they politely said too far under cost, which I guess is fair enough.

  • Here's a thought, if the Kogan one is Australian stock with Australian warranty, maybe just purchase it from Kogan

    • I eventually would if i am unable to find a similar or better deal elsewhere. I had a $30 jb voucher and a few discounted giftcards.

At some point i will say (profanity) it and go for it..

    On what grounds?
They’re a private company, man. Those are the grounds.

    • Yeah. Sounds like that is the only 'policy' to fall back upon..

  • I tried (and failed) to price match Kogan's PS5 price a while back with JB. Despite the Kogan page saying Australian stock / warranty, JB refused, citing they can't price match grey imports which obviously wasn't the case. The PS5 pro is rumoured to release late this year, there should be good deals soon if you can wait a few months (and try get TCN /ultimate cards ready)

  • I'd wait for the ps5 pro. If you are really desperate (depending on the games you want to play), I'd just buy the ps4 slim that is currently on sale.

  • The nerds in the gaming sections usually power trip and will never PM anything especially consoles they act like its coming off their pay, ive had sucess with matching Umart and Amazon then using discounted giftcards and JB perks birthday credit
