Credit for Qantas - How Can I Use It without Booking a Flight

I have a credit that's about to expire. I don't want to pay the cancellation fees (flexi fee).

Is there any other options I can do to use it without booking a flight…

Flight credit $3208

    Credit for qantas

I could never give them credit…

    • lol nice

Why don't you book a flight?

    • I'm currently 18 weeks pregnant not sure when I will be able to fly

It's a long shot but you could try to get a refund on compassionate grounds. I and others known to me have been able to get refunds from Jetstar, something I previously rated unimaginable.

          Were you pregnant too?

          • @jv: Three refunds this calendar year from JQ for inability to travel due to: tertiary student placement, defence employee roster clash, family member wedding date change. There may have been underlying fare conditions but these are opaque to me. Maybe Jetstar is working on a counter-narrative to Qantas?

      • I’m guessing you weren’t thinking of Qantas when you got pregnant?

        • The Flying Kangaroo(t)?

      • Qantas and compassionate is arguably oxymoronic… but you could get your credit expiry extended?

How long ago was the original booking?

I would call Qantas and you might get someone helpful. They might be able to extend the expiry.

        • This. Relative had surgery which meant they couldn't fly for a few months and Qantas extended their credit expiry (didn't refund, though).

      • Ask for an extension on the expiry.

Cancellations/Refunds: If you have booked with us via qantas.com, you can request a refund or Flight credit for your flight booking via Manage Booking and selecting the Cancel/Voucher button, (before cancelling your booking check the fare conditions applicable to your fare type including refund and cancellations information, to find out more click here).

On cancelling your booking, you may receive one of the following, depending on the conditions of your Fare Type:
The value as a refund, after cancellation fees (if any) have been deducted (check Fare Type for fare conditions), or
A Flight credit to use for a new flight booking with us.

Can you book another flight far into the future on a fare that does not have cancelation fees, then cancel it next month and ask for a refund, not flight credit

    • It's an airline - all loopholes totally covered off, that's why OP has a credit. The cancellation conditions of the original booking will apply for bookings made with your Flight Credit

Would that work though. Purchasing a flight with credit and returning it with the cash I paid.

        No

      • +1

        Best case: you get cash
Okay case: you get a new end date on the credit that was returned on canceling
Worst case: your returned credit has the same expiry as right now.

The only credit I give Qantas is that it is the worst international airline which flys out of Australia

But that aside, find a friend / family who wants an overseas holiday flight with the worlds worst airline and offer to buy their fare and they pay you back - they would of course get a discount on the voucher value because they are doing you a favor

  • Book a random flight with Jetstar as there's a good chance they will cancel it.

  • Book flights for your family and ask them to pay you back with a small discount?

  • Any chance you can use the credit on Qantas Marketplace?

I would ring them and explain your situation and ask for a full refund. I thought there was a news piece a while ago on QANTAS giving refunds due to the backlash over everything going wrong with QANTAS around the time that Alan Joyce up and left.
If they refuse threaten to go to the Ombudsman or Dept of Fair Trading etc and they may change their minds. Sometimes they just try to not have to refund but when push comes to shove they will. Good Luck with this and your bub on the way. :-)
