Anyone with Powershop / OVOenergy?

Hi All,

I'm moving homes and looking to change utility companies (Both Gas and Electricity) - No solar, gas cook and gas water heating, 1 split system for cooling and heating in the living around.

Using https://compare.energy.vic.gov.au/ for the new address - have recommended "powershop" and "Ovoenergy" - Lumo / Red for the gas.

Was wondering have you guys had any experience with powershop / ovoenergy?

Recommend other utility companies? Currently based around 3088 (Greensborough).

Current rates I'm getting quoted from powershop (Electricity) - Seems too good to be true..
Supply charges
102.06 ¢/day

Peak
Saturday 3 pm - 9 pm
Sunday 3 pm - 9 pm
Weekday 3 pm - 9 pm
All consumption
36.04 ¢/kWh

Off-Peak
Saturday 9 pm - 12 am, 12 am - 3 pm
Sunday 9 pm - 12 am, 12 am - 3 pm
Weekday 9 pm - 12 am, 12 am - 3 pm
All consumption
19.20 ¢/kWh

Powershop (Gas)
Supply charges
72.00 ¢/day

Flat
All consumption
2.69 ¢/MJ

P.s. Secondary question is I've noticed that some of these have "EV" plans, do you have to have EVs or can you pretend to have it, because it seems to have great rates.

Last question - is what does VDO mean? And what does it have it relation to bills / energy rates?

Thank you in advance!

VDO - Victorian Default Offer the standard rate an energy provider can charge.

Just note that most providers are currently changing their rates and may not have updated their new pricing structure.

When I moved to an EV plan they asked for my car number plate, but I would not be able to tell you how thorough their check is.

    • Was looking at this too. The EV plan said that the EV needs to be registered in your name and address. Not sure how they check. Was considering submitting my next door neighbours plate.

  • I’m with Powershop for Electricity. They’re the cheapest for me.. never had issues with them, but I’ve messaged them a couple of times and they’ve been quick with their response

    • Thanks! :) How has their "changes" to prices been? Have they had multiple changes in rates?

      • Only had the one one rise.. they have definitely put out less packs (used to be at least one per month, now it’s like one every 3 months)

        • packs? What is a pack?

          • @postform: You can buy things like “$20 worth of electricity for $15” or something like that

  • Currently with Ovo, they've been fine.. some changes to rates, but less than I thought there might be

  • I'm with ovo - no complaints.

Only been with them a few months so no price changes.

  • I was with Ovo for 8mths & had nothng but issues with their billing. Raised a complaint with the Ombudsman.

    • Can I ask, problems in what way? I am wondering if I’m missing anything with my provider

    • What sort of issues?

  • They charged me for 2 meters, 1 was my elec meter so no problems the other was the solar, so instead of a feed in tariff they charged me at the elec rates for usuage. They then refused to correct it and kept trying to tell me I had a granny flat. This was even after sending them a copy of my previous Origin invoice showing the 2 separate meter numbers and clearly showing 1 was solar FIT. I then contacted the ombudsman after getting knowhere. It took them 5 months to fix and how they did it Im still confused as to whether it was fxed correctly. You cannot speak to a human, their chat is only available certain hours and youre lucky if they respond when you do get the chat hours. They want everything done via email and their responses are non existent even when you send multiple requests. I think they assume if they dont reply you'll just gve up.
    I didnt

    • Thanks, will keep that in mind, might need to switch soon.

  • Ovo , we had initial issues, due to miscommunication at home. Anyway, took 2 months to get a compatible smart meter, which was same brand as what we had.
