GOODBYEORIGCOOKERS

Went to look up a recipe tonight and noticed the following deal in the app.

Anova is retiring the OG cooker in September 2025 and until the end of the month (31st it seems) is doing 50% off the Precision 3.0 for those with an original cooker (or the coupon).

Ships with AU plug.
Free standard shipping.

EDIT: NOTE: OG will continue to work, however will no longer be supported by the app.

They're not supporting it with the app after 2025, however the unit itself will still work. (https://www.reddit.com/r/homeassistant/comments/1e7298c/anyo…)

And with ESPHome and HA it will still work post 2025 - https://esphome.io/components/climate/anova.html

      Thanks.

Sorry, I did read that in the description. Added to post.

      • No problem. If your unit is still working fine then continue to enjoy it, no need to upgrade :)

I stopped using the app a while ago when I switched to the ESP32.

Such a chicken shit move to remove access to their app and force people to buy their new cooker.

Planned obsolescence means I'll never buy anything from that company.

      Electrolux being Electrolux :(

  • Cheaper at Costco if you already have a membership. https://www.costco.com.au/Appliances/Kitchen-Appliances/Stea…

Nope, ‎AN500-US00 is the "Anova Culinary Sous Vide Precision Cooker 2.0 (WiFi), 1000 Watts"

Not a great move by Anova to stop supporting the app.

No indication that they won't remove app support for this new model for no reason too next year/month/week.

  • I had one of the V1 of these for a decade, then got one of the 'nano RED' ones. Used the app maybe once or twice. Someone might need to explain why just pressing a button on a device isn't a viable solution?

There are cheaper immersion circulators out there. But for me, given how much I use it and how long the last one lasted, it's worth paying a bit more for it, it's an appliance after all.

  • This one at least doesn’t rely on the cloud or their servers, so disconnecting from the app means little. (Unlike some other devices which stopped working when their company stopped support)

I found with mine it is more convenient to use it direct. I think the only advantage I found with the app was that I would get notification when the time was up, but that doesn’t mean much with a sous vide cooker.

  • Good deal.

Following other comment, what does "app no longer supported" for OG anova precision cooker and what does the current OG user lose?

    Would that mean:
User can no longer set timer on the unit? (As Currently it relies on the app to set timer?)

User can not monitor online for the cooking? Essentially wifi function become useless?

User can not use specific cookbook to start the anova ?

Wouldnt that means anova cooking from smart item become a very generic dumb item (on or off, set temperature to specific, and pretty much thats it)?

    • you will lose link to phone, so you can still use the device standalone with it's built in buttons/display
