Getting a little long in the tooth with Videomicro II now out, but still a good upgrade compared on integrated camera mics.

Grabbed one for my A6700. Was hanging out for Videomic Go II but no big discounts on that one yet.

bought one of these recently, screwed it to my car dash, plugged it to my stereo mic input, and using it as a car mic.. and its working great! with the windbreaker on it, it doesn't have the issues of the later models, where when wind blows it affects the sound quality.. so i opted for this version.. people say the sound through the car is good when they call me…super happy… it is a shotgun mic though, so i have screwed it down but allowed it to be rotatable on the base that came with it.. when i have a passenger that is talking, i twist it their direction etc.. but its a great dependable mic. does an excellent job.

it has 3.5mm port on it.

Thanks for your mini review, ordered one for my camera :)

      • yea it stands out alott on my dash because its bigger than a normal car mic.. i couldnt be bothered running the cables to the ceiling to mount the mic.. so mounted on the dash… i've gotten used to it now.. but you might get some odd looks from passengers if you dash mount it hehe

      • if you look up "Rode VideoMicro Compact Review - My Best In-Car Mic!" on youtube, it is the video that helped me decide to go with this mic.. I was about to go with rodemicro II because i thought newer was better, but then i watched this video "Was I Wrong About The Rode VideoMicro II?"… and that helped me seal the deal on the Rode VideoMicro.. because it seems reliable and does an excellent job indoors and outdoors, out of the box.

    • Does your stereo have a mic input on the front? Or, did you plug it in another way?

    how does this compare to
    https://www.amazon.com.au/RØDE-Microphones-Ultra-compact-Lightweight-VMGOII/dp/B09MRLGL7G

Can it be dual function - desk mic and on camera mic?

    • yeah probably… my use case was in my car and because i smoked at the time, i'd always have my window open.. so i needed it to perform good in the wind with the windbreaker on.. but yea the micro II is the more techy mic, with the usb c etc.. was about to get it but opted for the micro original because it was alott cheaper and didnt have issues with a windbreaker on in the wind.. but alott of reviews and mic tests on youtube about them, check them out

I had originally planned to grab the Go II, but the price hasn't budged much. Go II is regarded as a better mic from the reviews I've watched and read (voice sound far richer imo). And it seems like it can be used as a PC microphone via the USB connection.

At the end of the day, I couldn't justify spending more than 2x the price of Videomicro though.
