If you want to go cheaper than tablets all together, I've been having great success with this for the last few months. You can vary the amounts and pre-wash vs regular wash.

Even if you use less? Overdosing laundry powder is a common cause of sub-par outcomes. At least so far as they relate to residue or dirty dishes.
Although I’m not ruling out the possibility that dishwashing dosage errors have been one of the contributing causes of the ongoing crisis in Gaza. That’s a complex one…
I think they must’ve changed the formula this year.
I’ve used the Aldi powder for years with no issue, but have tried two separate bottles this year and had this issue too. Lots of people online have also reported the same issue recently.
Yes the aldi powder has changed - and not for the better. It certainly does leave a film/residue.

I've been using Aldi powder for years and it's been excellent but my last few bottles constantly leave a white film on plastic.
Tested everything, cleaning, dosage size, less load, no bueno.
Aldi powder wasn't breaking down oil properly and oil clumps and sticks to the surfaces of the dishwasher.
I tried Finish - no film/residue
Aldi powder + 2 tablespoons of citric acid - no film/residue
Aldi recipe needs to be fixed.

@techie8055: Nah, they definitely had them at my local Aldi yesterday - I just didn't pay attention to the price since I was buying powder and rinse aid to see what all this hoopla is about superior cleaning performance if I use a little on the pre-wash.
I thought the absence was just temporary due to the global chemical shortages? If not, I may have to go back and clear out some of the remaining supplies. Just got psych myself up for it - much though I love the frugal philosophy, after juggling my goods out the door via the fat, grumpy "I will not be moved from this seat or assist with anything beyond vacuous scanning" thing at the cashier, I always feel just a little bit dirty.
But then, that could just be a symptom of all the flea-ridden trackpants I brush past in the course of a quick shop…
@techie8055: The irony - I have about 130 tablets of Logix Platinum left sitting on the shelf because we switched to Finish Powder.
It is purely for convince - old machine died and the new one got automatic powder dispenser.
Thinking about selling it here on markeplace since it is OzBargain's favourite. :)
This Finish stuff is massively over priced just the marketing keeps it attacking sales .
A bit like Dulux……not saying the paint isn't half decent but you are paying a premium for big fluffy dog.

$3.90 for Coles brand that works just as well in every dishwasher I've used it in.
Shine Dishwasher Powder Concentrate 1kg $3.90 .. going well with our Bosch Dishwasher..
Ecostore 1kg powder is $9.98 at Officeworks. Works just as well and gives you the benefit of being able to act holier-than-thou.
Not a bargain.

Another option if you have an Aldi near you, is their dishwashing powder - its pretty good
