Samsung One TV Cable inside a Wall Allowed for House Code?

I know power cables are not allowed to be run inside a wall cavity but since Samsung One TV Connect is a fibre cable I’m assuming it’s low voltage is that allowed to be run down a wall?

Is it the equivalent of running an Ethernet down a wall or something?

  • I know power cables are not allowed

Licence Sparkie ran all the cable through the wall for me. 💁‍♂️

  • Those assumptions seem a bit off. Firstly, you can't transmit electricity along fibre - the data segment might be going along fibre but the power certainly isn't.

Secondly, low voltage generates more heat in the cable due to higher amps, the basic ohms law relationship. You want to know the entire wattage that is actually going along the cable first before you do anything.

Thirdly, thin cables generally generate more heat. Narrower cables will generate more heat than thicker ones for the same amount of power. There's also very little insulation on those samsung cables (from what I've seen of The Frame ones) to keep it hard to see. It's the opposite of what you want to stick in a wall.

Go find out how much power it's delivering before you assume anything.

  • They actually sell in wall cables for the samsung tv's that are up to code in the US. Doesn't help for Aus though

  • You can get on of these and run cables through.
