Very tempted. Anyone have any real word experience?

Edit: reviews on amazon are less than stellar

  • +1

Yes, I own one. I didn't want to pay $2000 for a robot mower and this works really well for a budget option with a boundary wire. Although random tracking, I don't see any missed patches on my lawn and my lawn has never looked better thanks to the micro mulching of the clippings. The only issue I had was that the docking station needs to be nice and level for return docking success. Message if you want any more info.

    • How long have you had it for?

Since June 2022. Still going strong. I have changed cutting blades that are cheap. Looking at the Amazon reviews about poor customer support, I reached out to customer support and they are local in Australia and were helpful to solve my problem with docking - I guess companies have good and bad days with support.

      • I have the S5 with the smaller battery and mowing times are getting a little shorter as the battery ages so it docks a little more often then continues, but easy to replace the battery yourself.

        • I only have 100sqm (20x5 rectangle).

So the s5 should be plenty.

How close does it get to the edges? How does it handle obstacles like balls and leaves etc?

          • @butter: Cutting width is 18cm and they recommend you place the boundary wire 30cm from a fence as the mower runs central over the wire which would mean 30 - 18 ÷ 2 would leave 21cm not mown. You can move the boundary wire closer to the fence and then test to make sure it doesn't get caught to reduce this amount. The mower's first lap each mow is a perimeter cut to do the edges first, so that's a great test to see how well it navigates your boundary wire each mow.

Balls just get pushed out of the way while solid objects such as Hills hoist post or trampoline legs it hits, reverses then turns about 60 degs and tries again until it can move freely.

Lots of YouTube reviews to see it in action.

  • More options these days: https://www.amazon.com.au/s?k=robot+mower not sure what the Ecovacs Goat G1 with true tracking is like for $1799

  • Does this work on hills? I have a decent slant in my back yard

  • I have an S5 with the smaller battery. In my opinion these machines are probably worth it for the price but there are some caveats:

    1. I wouldn't use one if you have lots of obstacles, mine gets caught on trampoline legs constantly
    2. I wouldn't use one if you have a deciduous tree with large leaves (i.e. frangipani)
    3. Charging port on mine has had some issues which to me show a bad design.

That said mine has worked flawlessly for big chunks of time and the lawn looked amazing when it was.

    • Frangipani only drops leaves over part of the garden, and only for a month or so.
I use a backup push mower or a rake. Wouldn't give up robot mower for that!
It's a massive ti.e saver, and great for the lawn.

  • Got scammed by one of the sellers

  • Thanks for the info from the posters above. So tempting. I think I’d need to see one in action first.
