Dyson Ontrac (New Active Noise Cancelling over Ear Headphones) $799

Did anyone catch this video on YouTube? (also did anyone hear a laugh when he says "Dyson Zone" šŸ˜‚)

Before you start typing away, these are nothing like the Dyson Zone that everyone was laughing at. no bulkiness with fans inside the earcups, no air filter.

They do still look a bit weird, especially in red with the 3 piece headband, but seems like Dyson has taken ANC headphones seriously and released their own "Audio only product". the outside is customizable though you can swap the pieces out to change the colour of the headband earcups and ear cushions.

I'm hoping that bulky 3 piece headband look (they claim the batteries are in there) means the 55 hour battery life is with ANC on which would be impressive. (*official page confirms at the bottom 55 hours is with ANC on)

this is probably more exciting than the Sonos Ace which seems to have been a bit meh after release.

Official page just shows the colours and has pretty much has zero information about the headphones so here it is just for proof it's coming.

I think this blue headband and blue ear cushions colourway (CNC Copper Launch Colorway), with silver earcups will look very cool and Dyson'y. https://dyson-h.assetsadobe2.com/is/image/content/dam/dyson/ā€¦
Additional Colourway kit will cost you US$49 just for those silver cups though. šŸ˜©

  • 55 hours - well Iā€™m impressed

  • Dyson's second attempt, well Iā€™m impressed

    • prob will also fail

  • ok a bit disappointing news but according to a proper french review with subtitles.
even with 8 mics itā€™s still behind in ANC compared to Sony, Bose and Sonos.
ymmv I would like to test it in person but itā€™s so expensive probably never will.

  • Australian RRP confirmed as A$799

    • yeah if you look at edits I think I posted with $799 in the OP title at time of posting because the ā€œofficial pageā€ link had it with price already for preorder.

unfortunate thing is though after watching a couple in depth foreign reviews with auto eng subtitle (one was by Lesnumeriques canā€™t remember the others). all seemed to conclude ANC was not great and a whole step below Sony and Boseā€™s which are half the price or less.
positives of OnTrac mentioned were sound was ā€œon parā€ with other premium ANC headphones, and battery life with ANC on was great.

I mean I wasnā€™t ever going to buy OnTrac anyway but always enjoy tech news and this was kind of a
      disappointment in the ANC department.

    • forgot to mention the touch controls on the OnTrac seem to work weirdly.

just read for the 3rd time on reddit that mentions it but when you are meant to touch the earcups the sensitivity is terrible and half the time it doesnā€™t work. the posts said you have to touch the headband instead and then it works like you expect. šŸ¤”

  • a few more new upcoming/new release wireless ANC headphones I discovered from looking up tech gadget news.
