…bought one of these for $40.24 a couple months ago for the receptionist at work.. was fast and easy to read, helped us write down time and date details faster. I liked it so much i that i bought a couple for my house and my elderly parents who sometimes forget what the day and date is… only thing is, it only does 24 hour time i think (or i just couldn't get it into standard 12 hour time.. cant remember)… but i don't mind because I've had several years of reading 24 hour clocks at previous workplaces.
This brand has other good clocks but they're more expensive and don't seem to go on sale often… this clock seemed like the cheapest with all the basic features i needed most.

official website product page, including manual: https://www.tfa-dostmann.de/en/product/radio-controlled-cloc…

Made in Germany
Model number: 60.4519.01
size: (L) 215 x (B) 160 x (H) 26 (68) mm. text is clear and good enough size to read from across the other side of a normal room in daylight or with a light on.
batteries: 2 x AA 1.5 V required

PRO or CON
-24 hour time only (i think). probably the most important thing about this clock, to decide whether you want it or not… most people may not like 24 hour time, but having to look at 24 hour time at work for many years, it doesn't bother me (i could be wrong about this, but I'm pretty sure i tried to put it in standard 12 hour time, but couldn't)

-frame is black. I don't mind it, its perfect professional look for work or office environment, and home if you don't mind a black frame
-not backlit. not a big deal if you only look at it during the day or with a light on, its easy to read, but when it gets dark it will get harder to read of course
-its a silent clock in normal operation. though has an alarm you can set if you wish to do so
-doesn't show "AM" or "PM", or I couldn't get it to cause I couldn't figure out how to get into 12 hour time mode

PRO
-bought a few of these clocks and they all feel high quality build and plastic etc
-text is good enough to read from across the other side of a normal room
-has English language setting. It's really easy to read when you set it to English if that's your language
-has correct Australian numerical date order (day/month). Whilst most on Ebay & Amazon do not (most show month/day) in my experience. (i wasted several weeks and a few wasted hours trying to find the Australian order on a decent looking clock with all the stuff I need it to display on it)
-temperature is in Celsius. It seems very accurate and responds quickly to changes in temperature. I like how it shows the first digit after the decimal point, which is cool and makes reading the temperature more accurate and interesting to look at it go up or down by 0.1 degree. Its more "fun" than the regular 1 full degree up or down temperature displays.
-shows the Day of the week with first 3 letters, fast and easy to read
-battery seems to last a long time depending on the quality of battery you put in it. and battery symbol will display onscreen when its time to change batteries.
-has an alarm you can set if you want

*note: to set it up in Australian time… turn off the "DCF reception" mode, which will allow you to go into Manual mode and edit the time and date etc… because the radio controlled time (which automatically figures out and sets the the correct date and time etc) doesn't work in Australia im pretty sure.. because we don't have the antennas for it down here… it only works in Germany and other countries that they have the antennas for it.. or something i read somewhere on a forum… either that or i couldn't get it to work for some reason…

    What's TFA stand for?

    • no idea bro.. all i could find on the website was.. "TFA was founded in 1964
Heinz Dostmann founded the TFA in November 1964 as a “technical factory for valves” in Kreuzwertheim. At that time, several new glass processing companies settled in the region, attracted by the Wertheim glassworks, which had been built in 1950 by Thuringian glass specialists.".. never mentioned what it stands for… Technical Factory A…?

I’m going to make a guess based on this:

TFA Dostmann wurde 1964 als Technische Fabrik für Armaturen in Kreuzwertheim gegründet.

      Technische Fabrik Armaturen = TFA

      • ohhhh.. maybe yea… Technische Fabrik Armaturen= Technical factory fittings… in german… interesting, yea your probably correct on that hehe. thanks for figuring that out

Thanks OP. If its really just a 24 bour only display (which I doubt), it goes back.

Sad it doesn't have a hydrometer readout, otherwise it'd be perfect.

I had a similar clock that was radio controlled.
There is an android app you can use to fake the sounds used to set it. Kind of annoying to be honest, but it does work.

Quite a few reviews complain about battery life. I wonder if having no signal in foreign countries (including Australia) causes that, with the device constantly listening but never finding it.
Few other complaints about bad temperature readings, but hard to say if that's legit.

To turn off the DCF77 reception on your clock, follow these steps:

      1. Enter Setting Mode:

        • Press and hold the MODE button for three seconds to enter the setting mode.

      2. Navigate to DCF Reception Setting:

        • Use the UP or DOWN button to navigate through the settings until you reach the DCF reception setting. The sequence typically includes year, month, day, hours, minutes, day-of-week language, and then DCF reception.

      3. Turn Off DCF Reception:

        • When you reach the DCF reception setting, it will display "RCC ON" by default. Use the UP or DOWN button to change this setting to "RCC OFF".

      4. Confirm Setting:

        • Press the MODE button to confirm the setting and move to the next. The clock and date must be manually set once the DCF reception is turned off.

By following these steps, you will disable the DCF77 signal reception and can manually set the clock to the correct time for your location.

This information is derived from the manual settings section in your uploaded document .

This might help the battery life by disabling the dcf77

    • Thats really interesting! Didnt know that haha very cool… but your right yeah it would probably get really annoying

Hey OP, I threw the manual in ChatGPT - here’s the instructions for setting 12 hour:

To switch your clock to a 12-hour format, follow these steps:

    1. Enter Setting Mode:

      • Press and hold the MODE button for three seconds to enter the setting mode.

    2. Navigate to Hour Setting:

      • The first adjustable value will flash on the display. Use the UP or DOWN button to navigate to the hour setting if it is not the first value that flashes.

    3. Adjust Hour Format:

      • Press the UP or DOWN button to change the hour. The clock should switch between 12-hour and 24-hour formats.

    4. Confirm Setting:

      • Confirm the setting by pressing the MODE button, and continue to adjust other settings if needed, or exit the setting mode.

Ensure you follow these steps accurately to successfully change the clock format .

Thankyou Slif! Your a legend, Ill try this when i get home ^^D

Pretty sure they removed the 12 hour format to shove in that atomic radio clock stuff. Theres still the imprint of am and pm, just no way to use it.

    • Can confirm, contacted manufacturer, no am pm mode
