Protection Surcharge on Deliverable Electronics

Been looking at buying a new computer. Along with being charged shipping and a Payment Gateway fee for using a credit card, they also want to charge me an additional fee for protection against theft or damage when it's being delivered.

Should I bother getting this? For the amount I'm already paying for the item and shipping, paying another fee just for the thing to show up is starting to hit the wallet.

Thanks.

It is their responsibility to deliver the goods safely, you could do a credit card chargeback if there is a problem.
The making a claim if you pay the fee might be easier/quicker, that would be the only reason to pay it.

    • Yeah that's what I thought. I buy stuff online all the time and don't have to pay this kind of thing.

I think if you pay thousands of bucks for something, you expect it to at least show up. Company can't take your money and be like "whoops I guess maybe the courier stole it or something. Should of paid the extra if you wanted it to arrive"

      • However the business can get out of this responsibility, especially if they cease trading.

No, services like route.com/protect are basically a scam. It's the seller's responsbility ensure the item is delivered to you in an appropriate condition.
