  • Origin, yep I have received the $75 for this quarter

    • I'm with Origin too (NSW) and I received my quarterly bill this morning. I didn't get it.

    • Part of it (pro-rata) should be given on first quarterly bill after 1 July 2024.

So any time between now and end of September

    Energy Australia say:

The first $75 instalment will be automatically applied to eligible electricity accounts by 8 July 2024 (QLD) or 19 August 2024 (ACT, NSW, SA or VIC) and it will then appear on your next bill after this date.

  • AGL - not on my 'billing' page, next bill cycle in 3 weeks though

My parents keep asking me about this and when they call their providers, their providers always stupidly tell them to call Centrelink.

They did, they told them to call the service providers.

"Synergy or Horizon Power customers don't need to apply. Your provider will automatically apply the credit to your account over two instalments from 20 July 2024 and 7 December 2024."

OVO QLD - I received the $75 two days ago.

  • The first payment date varies from state to state.

  • I thought it was supposed to be $300-ish?

    • $75 per quarter, $300 total.

      • OK cheers.

      • I thought it was $25 per month……lol

  • Lumo in VIC, nothing yet.

Vic Gov is still working with the Federal Gov on how to distribute

The Victorian Government is currently working with the Commonwealth Government to determine how the payment will be delivered.

I assume JA is deciding what cut CFMEU gets…..

  • How do you claim this if the your power is combined with your rent and therefore not in your name?

    • It goes to the bill payer. You could talk to your landlord, or whoever you pay rent to about passing it onto you in a few months or so when they get it.

“If you live in an embedded network

Households in embedded networks (such as where you receive electricity from your strata or landlord in a caravan park, apartment building or retirement or village) will be eligible for a rebate through an application to their state and territory government.”

      Give that a try?

  • Will one still receive this credit if switching providers prior to receiving the credit?

    • +1

      I did
I switched on the 7th july. My switch was completed on 10th, $1000 went into my old acct on 10th which has not been finalised yet.

When i get my last bill they will refund to my bank. I have noticed they are dragging their feet issuing my final bill but I am getting on top of that today.

I can see this being a real pain for those who utility flip. As was the case with last year's. Origin took months to process it and by the time it hit, I had moved to another provider. Only by chance I still had gas with them and noticed it as a credit on my electricity account when I logged in. They wouldn't refund but did transfer to my gas. Great that the feds have this notion of make it easier for customers to switch providers for a better deal but no real way of dealing with these issues.

Isn't it nice that Alborigenese handed over tax money straight to the energy retailers.
When do we get our $275 reduction that was promised over 90 times?

  • I'm in Queensland with Origin, received the $1000 annual credit from Queensland government and $75 quarterly credit from federal government as credit on my Origin account on 2 July. Cannot withdraw any credit as Origin says must be used for electricity charges only.

    • Yeah I had same issue with origin in Vic for last year's paymenr. Not sure it's legal though as I had spoken to deet before I tracked down the payment and they said you can request a refund for credit. So pretty sure origin are making up their own rules to force people to stay or reconnect to use the credit. They did transfer mine to a gas account luckily.

  • I'm with Nectr in QLD, checked on the 2nd of July & have been credited $1075.

  • Yes plus $1000 from the Qld govt.

  • I just changed energy providers - last place billed up to 10 July, new one will be from 11 July. Nothing appeared on my final invoice from the last retailer, hopefully it appears on the first bill from the new retailer.

Oh yes people, change your retailers - do it from mid July once all the new pricing comes out. Lucky I did, my old retailer just hiked my rates. My new retailer is better than my old retailers old rates, and smashes the new rates from my old retailer.

    • Same boat. Moved to Ovo (Victoria) in the first week of July. Didn't get my $75 on the final bill for the one I left. Hoping they pay it on the next bill.
