A person who I believe in these matters tells me these are very excellent sounding. Looking at the measurements, I see that IMD is very low so I guess I kinda believe it and have been keeping an eye out for a discount. I didn't notice at first but it turns out there's a 15% discount at checkout.

BTW the listing doesn't say it's Prime Day and the amp doesn't show up when searching in the Prime Day category, so I didn't put Prime Day in the title.

It is a bit cheaper if you get it from Amazon US, pay in USD and avoid exchange fees, currently USD232.82 delivered which is AUD345.30 using wise.com. You'd also need to get an AU power cable. There is 30-day return policy but it would need to be taken to the "nearest" UPS depot which is not that near for me. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CC4M8XK4

There's also a "Plus" version for more money but I don't see the point of that myself.

I didn't order one, still thinking about it…

Value in this area is very subjective… but FWIW as an alternative the Fosi v3 is currently $80.34 with eBay Plus - https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/204458892259

These get a bad rap, Toppings rep went down the drain recently with build quality.

    • I'd read that the PA5 had some issues, but that these were addressed in the PA5 II (no?).

OP, FWIW I'd recommend getting the version with the 48V psu for the Fosi Audio ones, which brings the price up significantly although still around 1/3 of the Topping one.

I'd be stretching a bit more for WIIM Amp with built in streaming

    • Interesting thought…

Shenzeng Audio have a fair range, but brands like the beloved Topping have crept up in price for what they are now.
I sent back a SMSL SU-9 once, and they expect to receive it back before issuing a refund or post a replacement (luckily I hounded Amazon and they just issued one).

    • Yeah, if I wasn't kinda wed to still having a centre channel I'd be very tempted to try downsizing to the wiim amp. PEQ and bass management on board, and room correction in the works for it too, so it's a pretty full featured little beast for the price.

      • Yep, amazing value for the features and sound quality

      • It's a pretty good offering.
You could always run a half decent soundbar as well for movies tv, and separate audio setup (DAC 2/2.1) for music.

        • Yeah, that's always been the plan if we end up with a living situation that suits having the music setup in a different location to the TV. As it stands though, the best spot for the main speakers is on stands either side of the TV unit, so it seems wasteful not to use them.

I've considered just ditching the centre speaker too and running a 2.1 setup, but the layout also puts a couple of seating positions left of the left speaker and ends up with a pretty whack staging for dialogue, works much better there with the centre.

          • @Srey: You could see how 2.1 setup does for movies - I also don't like it, even if the speakers are good. Likewise soundbars aren't good at music. A separate soundbar with Atmos + rears is great (got a q950a).

Those AV receivers are a good I/O hub but jack of all trades. Obviously you could get an awesome setup as the sky is the limit by all that cabling and components are pretty old school to be bothered now.
