if you wrote like a normal person you wouldn't get responses like this…which has just wasted the time you mistakenly thought you saved.

  • Woolies was selling some 700g cage free eggs for $5 per dozen last week.

It was a new brand and did not scan in the app…

Maybe in Melbourne? I'm in Brisbane and eggs have always been available in the supermarkets.

    • Bird flu hasn’t hit QLD (AFAIK) and usually supermarket egg suppliers are relatively local.

  • the road down to Somerville has a couple of cheap places to buy direct. Having said that, local butcher usually chucks in a dozen free when you spend enough

I don't think the cost variation on eggs is so significant that OP should be travelling around Melbourne to save on this item - the petrol, travel time, wear and tear etc will likely cost more.

700g egg carton is $5 at Woolies and I can't imagine they'll be so much cheaper elsewhere to be worth all the effort, unless of course OP is buying a large amount.

  • The seed and feed place that I go to has free eggs for their customers. Because they also sell chooks. And the chooks don't wait until they are sold to start laying eggs, so until they are sold the place selling the chooks has to collect the eggs and sell them cheap or give them away. You do however get a carton full of the strangest looking collection of different sized eggs.

Don't share the name, there'll be 800 ozbargainers lined up everyday wanting free eggs.

      • My suggestion wasn't to go to my seed and feed place, but to look for somewhere similar in your area that sells laying hens, and you might find they sell cheap eggs too.

  • Try asian grocery stores - they often have the absolute cheapest.

    • Because they get directly from the farm. Less the middleman and corporate charges.

  • I purchased a dozen Coles Free Range Eggs 700 gram for $5.60 on 15/07/2024.

  • Live in east Victoria havent seen this egg shortage yet.

Local woolworths and iga havent never run out and no limits.

Might depend it panic buying in particular areas?

    We buy a 2 dozen a week.

  • Keep forgetting to drop by one of the roadside sellers $5 dozen keep planning to get a dozen duck eggs for $8 suppose to be really good in cakes.

    • Century eggs are the best.

  • Cheapest means battery farms
