Does anything like this exist for blinds with individual strings for adjusting them up/down, rather than the "ball chain loop" style?

  • Aqara U100

does it work with Xiaomi hub (which I have it up and running at home) or is that E1 hub necessary?

    • +1

No it will not work. I choose the camera with build in hub if I were you.

  • Why is it so expensive? I can get it for 60 from China and just pay a little for shipping to here.

    • it is always cheaper for a grey import at the expense of potential warranty issue.

    • Link???

    • Show a link! Almost everything on AliExpress is a clone of this unit and not as good for heavy rollers.

  • cheaper as above posts

    • Yeah, and I do had some aqara stuff when in China, they do works stable and budget friendly. But didn't know it can be so expensive here.

  • Pricing aside, can anyone speak to whether these are any good or not?

Have been using three of these for few months now with Home assistant. Do not have the Aqara hub or app. Only through HA. They are good for most part and I have open/close automaions running everyday. Occasionally missed updating status. But really a minor issue. Not sure how it would change if I used an aqara hub. Battery have been okay. 2 months with a single charge max for small blinds. Struggles with strength and battery for a large blinds though.

      • Perfect answer, thanks.

Have 2 of them. Living room blind is big (2.4m W x 2.1H) and when down to 40% battery, the aqara wont lift the blind. Problem solved when charged
This issue is not present on the bedroom blind (0.9m W)

Edit: pretty happy with them, can. Set automations to open in the morning and close at night

        • My experience is the same as @raphael2012. Though I’m on my 2nd 2.4m(W) x 2.2m(H) blind now because this little motor somehow stretched the blind chain on the first blind and broke it twice before the blind rolling mechanism destroyed itself. Related? Unsure..

This unit chugs away daily as long as it’s above ~30% charge for me. Charge it once every three months or so. Setting up battery level warnings in Home Assistant helps to ensure it’s always working.

Ive heard (no experience yet) that the tube type blind motors are better in every way, so if/when this dies, I’ll be giving one of them a go.

I’ve had seven of them in use for over a year now, connected to Home Assistant. Perfectly reliable thus far, including the two which are moving very large / heavy blinds - approx 2m x 2.5m, with thick-ish fabric and a hefty metal bar on the bottom.

Battery life is reasonable, I have to charge the two moving the heavy blinds when they reach 40-45% (approx every 20-30 days with, typically, one open and one close per day), the other ones when they reach 35-40% (perhaps every 40ish days). No noticeable signs of battery degradation thus far.

A couple of caveats, which aren’t the fault of the blind motors but are worth noting:

      • two of my blinds judder a lot (move in little jerks and make quite a bit of noise) when opening / closing, and nothing I’ve tried has resolved the issue. Hasn’t caused any real problems, just annoying. Not an issue when manually winding, but the motors move smoothly without load (and swapping the motors around didn’t help), so I assume it’s some minor misalignment/similar in the blind mechanism.

      • getting the tension on the chains just right is an art - too tight and the motors won’t turn, too loose and the chains slap around, making noise and sometimes getting jammed in the cog on the motor. A problem exacerbated by the fact that the motors stretch the chains over time (well, they do with mine - metal chains), requiring frequent adjustment of the motor’s position. I think my chains are now reaching “maximum stretch” and are going for longer without requiring an adjustment, but it’s probably taken 5-10 adjustments per blind/motor to get to this point. Due to this - and the force placed on the motor when moving heavy blinds - I would not recommend sticking the motor to the wall using the supplied pad - screw it into the reveal or a stud instead.

        appreciate the writeup, cheers

      • Agreed, this is exactly my experience too. Though mine seem to last longer than yours, but I only have 1x 2.4m x1.2m blind for reference

    • Be aware of the load capacity. Our curtains are pretty wide (about 2m), and even when adjusting the tension rod inside, they're still too heavy to be lifted by these…
      Will need to return them

  • Don't you need a hub

  • Isn’t it better to have the blind motor installed ?

    much cheaper on aliexpress

come on aqara these deals are shit

  • I'm sure this is fine, although personally I paid around $120 for this: https://www.ozsmartthings.com.au/products/zigbee-smart-blind… about a year ago (currently not in stock though). Works fine with home assistant (Sonoff ZB Dongle-E), and it came with a solar panel which so far seems to keep the thing charged.

Cheaper elsewhere as mentioned above. No bargain here, just adz.

  • +1

Cheaper elsewhere as has been mentioned above.

  • +1

cheaper elsewhere for LOCAL stock even, as per above.

  • I cant find it on aliexpress, is the model replaced by another?

  • +1

Tell your boss to give us real bargains. Mediocre offerings don't cut it around here. FFS.

  • $95 for a single blind motor and someone thought to themselves this was a bargain 🤣

Even at half that price they are overpriced. I’ve got heaps of Aqara gear, 10 water leak sensors, door sensors, A100 door lock and video g4 bell etc and I refuse to cough up this money to automate a blind. I’ll wait until they are reasonable, $40

  • When a mod points out that it’s “cheaper elsewhere”…
