A cult classic. The Black, F nib model is quite popular for various reasons, scratches to the ASA body aren't as evident and lighter weight compared to the AL-Star.
It's a great introductory fountain pen and comes at an amazing price point. It can clip onto a lot of things and the clip doesn't really wear much over time. The ink window is also quite handy.
The main aspect that would make it or break it would be the triangular grip, if you have a non-standard pen grip then this may not be suitable for you.

The AL-Star comes with an anodized aluminum body, the Vista is just a transparent body while the Umbra Rollerball is a standard rollerball tip.
The Lamy Safari and AL-Star variants also accept the Lamy Z28 Ink converter upgrade (add-on) which allow you to refill with inks of your choice instead of buying disposable cartridges.

    Don't seem to have the same problem - unless using particularly fine nibs (and not writing regularly). Lamy M nib rarely drys out completely.

  Fair warning Lamy are one of those brands which have so many fakes flying around, if you do decide to buy make sure you check it's authenticity (look it up yourself there are so many guides). It also doesn't help that Lamy usually sells loose pens to retailers and charges them for the box so you can receive a pen which is just in a plastic bag.

  I have received a few fakes from Amazon in the past.

    Unfortunately this is true, the only reason why I'm happy to go with Amazon is that they'd refund me if it does turn out to be fake.
    It is fulfilled by Amazon Germany (The Safari Umbra F nib) which is better than a (Generic chinese name) seller, inventory can still be comingled though.

    Update, I've received my Safari Umbra from Amazon DE Germany
    It appears to have all the distinguishing details of a real Lamy, the embossing is really high quality and the size of fonts match the real pens.
    Removed the nib, slight blue ink stain is visible too!
