  • I am interested but some have said that you're better off waiting for Uprising.

    • +2

      Uprising is already out.
Uprising is new and improved, but the original game is still a fun & different experience. Recommend you get the Ix expansion to go with this base game.
Otherwise yes, you can get Uprising instead. They are different though, and I still highly recommend the base game (this one).

      • Sorry, I guess my comment/point wasn't clear. Uprising isn't sold by Amazon yet or at a price point that I'm willing to jump in at. I've got a tonne of games that I haven't played so I can wait .

Edit: Hmm, they all do play together. How essential is the expansion? Do you need it straight away?

Edit 2: I caved and bought it anyway.

        • Imperium is a great game by itself, you won't be disappointed. It's also made much better with Rise of Ix.

In my view Uprising is like Imperium Mk 2, improving on the bits in Imperium that were a little annoying, tedious or just didn't quite work as well as you'd like.

Rise of Ix also works with Uprising and is a great experience. Immortality works as well but I haven't tried it.

You can add the cards from Imperium into Uprising or vice versa, but I probably wouldn't bother, other than trying out the leader cards.

    • Wait for a better price on Uprising, or just pay more as it's a better game imho.

I ended up caving in and buying it anyway. I still have lots of promo credit which I need to use up. That's my excuse anyway. I've read that even if you play Uprising later, the base can be good as an intro for teaching new players. In any case the base game is still right up there in the solo game ranks on BGG so it must be alright.

    Shows as $122.83 for me.

    • Do you have a Prime membership?

      • -1

        Yup

        • Can you choose from Amazon AU instead of Amazon US on the right?

          • -4

@ozbs25: Err, no I'm on Amazon.com.au. I'm a returning member on a free trial, but the other "prime only" deals are showing correct prices as expected and can be added to my cart.

            • @rcgy: The $122.83 is the price from Amazon US on Amazon AU.

              • -2

@ozbs25: Yes, and it's the only available option. I'm in Tassie, changing it to a less rural location seems to work.

      Shows as $52.78 for me.

  • Is Dune Imperium Deluxe Upgrade Pack worth it?

    • +3

$110 to add some miniatures and a storage box to the base game you're paying $52 for, without actually changing gameplay? May be cool but not worth it in my mind.

    • +1

It doesn't add any rules or features, but is much cooler than pushing around wooden cubes. Depends how much you value the tactile feel and appearance. I think it's worth it, others disagree. It's a personal choice.

    Does anyone alive meet this?

Great great game. Destroys so many other games at or near this price point because of the tight victory conditions. Knife fight in a phone box

Board Game Geek has it at rank 6 out of no idea…. really big number I assume 156,000 since it says 1563 pages and it looks like all pages have 100 games.

    https://boardgamegeek.com/browse/boardgame

46K people reviewed it… with an average of 8.44…. so looks like people think its a winner

Phenomenal game - not losing at this price. Have played 100+ times.

  • This is a no brainer. Haven’t played uprising yet but my group love this game. We always hate when our number gets too large on game night and we can’t play it!

    • There's a few a 5 player modification on Board Game Geek, if you can be bothered printing out the extra cards and so on, My group has tried this one; it's worked pretty well and isn't as fiddly as some of the other variants, but you do need Rise of Ix: https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/2843493/5-player-all-boards…

      • Thanks! I have not got Ix yet, but will definitely look into this
