Vehicle Insurance Claim with Youi - $1000 Excess within 90 Days

Hi All

Have purchased 2 new vehicles and put under comprehensive insurance with Youi.

One of the vehicles was in an accident about 75 days into the policy.

I am now getting told that I need to pay the extra $1000 excess for being within 90 days.

I never agreed to the excess and never was notified at the time I took out the policy.

Please help? What do I do? I'm thinking to pull all of our vehicles off of using Youi insurance forever.

Regards
Brad

Is the additional excess listed in the PDS? or the policy schedule?

Edit. Doesn't appear to be in the current pds. Check your policy schedule

    TLDR: OP f-ked up

Have you read the PDS before signing? And kept a copy on your end? Otherwise, cop it.

wow almost exactly 10 years ago haha

Did you read the PDS? I'm sure it is there.

One of the vehicles was in an accident about 75 days into the policy.

    Your fault or someone elses?

99% of the time it would be on you… however.

        Big “oof”.

If it's not in the PDS and if you escalate with no joy, then AFCA.

  • I never agreed to the excess and never was notified at the time I took out the policy.

Just because you didn't read the full terms and conditions of the policy you signed doesn't mean you didn't agree to it assuming it's actually in there, which it will be.

There's a few posts about this if you Google it.

We may require an additional excess to be paid in certain circumstances under your policy. The exact situations where this would apply, and the amount of the additional excess, will be shown on your policy schedule. In the event of a claim being made under circumstances as detailed on your policy, this excess would apply in addition to any other excesses that would normally apply to the claim

One of the vehicles was in an accident about 75 days into the policy.

A claim within the first 90 days usually triggers a fraud indicator but I've never heard of an additional excess before.

You should be asking them to point out where it states in the PDS that there's such an excess.

Perhaps it was individually tailored for you.

  • What do you mean “you never agreed to the excess”?

    youi…..we get you(r money)

It's 2024 and people still go with Youi (facepalm)

I used them once. They sent me a reminder that my yearly premium was due and took it out a day later… 2 weeks before the due date.

Rang up to cancel, said I could only cancel that years policy, not next years, even though I had paid for it. Called them back the day it was supposed to renew to cancel it, and they said it was “outside the 10 day cooling off period” since payment was made.

      (fropanity) YOUI, never again.

Its bad enough i couldnt get a quote out of them without a phone call from them to follow up the online system. Might seem more 'personal' bjt its just a waste of time.

Maybe thats changed, but i wont bother to find out.

        • Omg, yes. I just wanted a quote and got a 45min phone call with someone asking me that weirdest questions.

“Do you have a family member who lives near a tennis club that you visit on Tuesdays between 2 and 3pm?”
          “Um, no”
“Oh, good good, we can certainly give you a discount based on that… Have you ever had to make a claim against a naval officer within 30km of an airforce base while you were wearing a Nazi clown Halloween costume in March?”
          “WTF? No…”
          “Ok, that’s good… have you…”
          *click*

one would think you could find such a clause in their PDS available online, or somewhere on their website.
But nope seems the only mention of this fact is in other people complaining online about it - on here, and on whirlpool forums
    car pds

of course, their whole shtick is that the policy is tailored for you:

We may require an additional excess to be paid in certain circumstances under your policy. The exact situations where this would apply, and the amount of the additional excess, will be shown on your policy schedule

i doubt you are better off under youi, shop around.

Thanks all. Im going to fight it!

    • +6

Fight? Just ask them where it's written

      More flies with honey etc…..

    • +2

The exact situations where this would apply, and the amount of the additional excess, will be shown on your policy schedule

So, after checking your policy schedule, does it specify any additional excess?

    Youi is shit.

I remember I was with Youi once… never again!

Was the driver unlisted and/or <25 years old?

    • Unlisted

      • -1

So I'm guessing when applying for insurance when asked if anyone else was going to drive the car you answered no. So there is an unlisted driver excess.
        Standard. Get them to pay.

  • Youi are scammers. Have even been told by the repairers to avoid them.
