Is There Any Good Deals on Micro SD Cards for Prime Day?

Looking for a 1TB A2 sd card for a Steam Deck. Been hanging out for a deal on Prime Day but haven't seen anything yet.

Is there any decent deals on micro SD cards?

Hi thanks for that. Saw this one but their A2 1tb models don't seem to be any cheaper than usual.

      • I use an A1 on my steam deck, it's fine. It's a bit slower to get games onto the device but once they're there it barely impacts loading time

        • ok. I just read that they were recommending A2's for Steam decks?

I should mention that it'll be for emulation stuff. Mostly for storing older games.

I won't be using it for storing Steam games. That'll be left on the internal hd

@hamsammich: Copying a reply from Reddit that I used when deciding what to pick and have found to be accurate. I use my A1 for both steam and emu, it's absolutely fine if you don't need to rush getting the games onto the device

"It'll affect your install times if you're on fast Internet. With an A2 card, the CPU becomes the bottleneck if you're 'net is fast enough (decompressing, whatever) during downloads. With a slower A1 card that will be the bottleneck. In my experience, downloading a 60gig game to an A2 card for me (gigabit fibre, real speed of 55-65MB/s) takes about 12-15 minutes. The same game onto an A1 card can take more than an hour.

Gaming you won't see a difference. And if you're on slower net, it won't matter either."

            • @tassietigermaniac: So using an A1 won't affect how the actual games run? Just transferring them over to the card?

@hamsammich: That's correct. My personal experience is the same, I have a smaller A2 but just ended up swapping to the A1 card because I'm ok with a slower xfer speed. Please note I don't emulate past the PS2, this might not be true of PS3 emu, I've never tried it

Edit: Just ran a direct test, from 3 random loads the A2 loaded about 5% faster. Not enough for me to care

@tassietigermaniac: Yeah nice. Just ordered a 1TB A1. Will see how it goes.

I had an old 64gb A1 kicking around. Added it to my Steamdeck and loaded some roms on it. Seem to go ok for PS1 and lower. Haven't tested PS2 or anything higher yet on it.

@hamsammich: I wonder who keeps negging you.

You'll be fine with ps2. I am with my SanDisk card and several ps2 games. Good luck and reach out if you need a hand setting anything up

Better value to just upgrade the internal SSD.

I dunno, A1 cards can be pretty bloody cheap on sale and do a really good job still
