Suggestion to Flag a Post or Product That Contains a Recalled Product

Site suggestion to be able to flag products/posts that have products that have been/are subject to a Product Safety Recall.

I know Ozbargain about finding and posting the absolute best deals and bargains, but it shouldnt come at the expense of product and public safety. If a product was/is recalled, there should be an ability to flag posts and products accordingly to alert those who had purchased and/or are searching, to the recall.

i.e. ACCC Public Safety Recall of Baseus Magnetic Wireless Charging Power Bank 6000mAh 20W There are also 4 posts for the product when searched

  • Sounds sensible

  • The easiest way to generate notification for people who are interested in hearing about product recalls would be a category tag, which I have just made. You can subscribe to the tag, which then generates either emails or web notifications (depending on the settings) and you can opt out at any time just by unsubbing.

Note that it's not the moderator's responsibility to keep people updated with the recalls and we are not actively monitoring the product recall notices.

However if an Ozbargainer notices it, they can notify us by reporting the deal as recalled and we can apply the tag as such to the affected deal.

Please also do not rely on the tag for product recalls: since this information is going to be crowdsourced, it is not a 1:1 replacement for the productsafety.gov.au website.

Consider subscribing to ProductSafety.gov.au instead by clicking here if you want to catch all the updates.

    • Perfect!

  • If a product was/is recalled, there should be an ability to flag posts and products accordingly to alert those who had purchased and/or are searching, to the recall.

If a product is recalled, it is by law removed from sale via the retailers stocking it. So those searching etc and finding an older deal shouldn't be able to buy it.

If you have purchased it already, then not much you can do, people don't go back and check the deal for items they have purchased. No point.

You can get a full refund from the retailer. That's why it's a good idea to be notified.

Sure you can a refund, but that has nothing to do with what I said. Do you go back and check all the post deals for items you have purchased over the last few years? No one does that, so little point in putting a note on the deal.

        • Here's a better idea @scrimshaw, people can make a report on the deal to be reopened and someone comments so those who are subbed will get notified. Obviously that's not going to be every purchase, but still usually a good amount.

          • @Clear: The system culls subscribers on threads that are closed (after a certain length of time). I.e. If I reopen comments on an old deal and make a comment, nobody is notified since there are zero subscribers.

            • @scrimshaw: Oh that's a bit of a bugger.

              • @Clear: See, near totally useless in putting a recall notice on the deal. There are far better ways to follow recalls.

                • @JimmyF: No one can ever please you.

                  • @Clear: LOL, I was pleased from the start, the idea was flawed from the getgo, see my first comment on it that YOU replied to, you're the one who wasn't pleased not me.

As I said, how often do you go back to review deal posts for items you have purchased? The answer is NEVER……..
