Citizen Quartz BI5100-58E Dress Watch $99 Delivered (Was $299) @ Starbuy

600

Edit: black dial sold out, white dial still available: https://starbuy.com.au/citizen-quartz-mens-watch-bi5100-58a/

Want a clean-looking watch from a reputable brand for under $100?
Find watches that let you cosplay as a 1940s pilot or 1960s scuba diver to be a bit silly and not your vibe?

Well here's the Citizen Quartz BI5100-58E. It's more accurate than an automatic watch, won't stop keeping time if you take it off for a couple of days, and there are no random gimmicks on the face that you're never gonna use. You can wear it to work, you can wear it to the pub, but don't wear it in the pool. It'll probably pick up some scratches, but dawg you paid $99.

If you're wondering about the 41mm case size and don't have much to compare it to, I'd describe it as at the upper end of medium. Those meaty diving watches with the twisty dial are usually around 45mm, and the 1970s/80s watches your dad wore are probably 37/38mm. A 41mm case will look fine on most wrists.

From product page:

      Or poor man's Seiko

      • Nah depends on the models for either.
A lot of Seikos under $300 are shit as well.

        • A lot of seikos over $300 are shit

  • In before @G-rig….

Avoid, avoid, avoid. This doesn't have sapphire 😜

If you like it, get it dude, who cares for 100$.

    • +1

      Looks good on you

    • Ya buy one for your left ankle

  • +2

You could get the AD2030 from aliexpress for under $70 if you wanted something a bit more unique. Also no sapphire.

  • +2

    $99 !

yeah, i mean sure you can get an sd1970 with the sapphire glass and watchnerd seal of approval, and got some change for 24 pack condoms from woolies (for all the ladies you will be drowning in) - but sometimes you just need a nice low key piece like this.

its a yes from me - the white dial is my pick of the two but.

  • This or Casio Duro?

    • +1

Duro - if you want a casual style that'll dive to 200m and obtain Bill Gates seal of approval

    • +3

duro - it has a hidden feature where it has an auto timer inthe way the lume lasts 30 seconds before it goes out.
      perfect for when its SHOWTIME.

  • Poor mans SARB033?

    • +8

Everything is a poor man's something or other. One of the core tenets of OzB is to not get bamboozled into paying more than necessary.

      • +1

Agreed, I'm not knocking it hence the upvote. It's a fraction of the price of a SARB033 so looks like it's good value

        • Yeah, no point worrying about those old models these days, long discontinued and people want too much for them second hand. Sure the dial and hands were super clean, but nothing particularly special with the movement (no handwinding or hacking, low power reserve), cheap bracelets, no sapphire (I think).

          • +1

@G-rig: Sarb033 does have hand winding, hacking and sapphire crystal

            • +1

@krazek: The 6R15 is pretty reliable and very accurate when worn (as opposed to sitting on a timegrapher). 50 hour power reserve is nothing to be sneezed at. The bracelets are actually pretty damn good too. The case design and finish is next level as well.

Sure you're not think of something else @G-rig?

            • @krazek: Thank Christ for that lol.
So does every AliExpress 100$ watch

              • @G-rig: Sounds like you have a personal issue with the Sarb033 for some reason. Each to their own

  • +1

I identify as a 1960s scuba diver wannabe.

I did have a few baths in the Sixties, so maybe I can claim to be closer to the dream than most.

    • +1

I flew a box kite once, I hope that counts as being a pilot?

  • +1

Nice classic design and price 👌

    • +1

No way they are or no way they aren't?

      • No way they are.. $180 BN0162-02X??

        • Were you given a bum steer? Heard they were $150 last week.

      • +1

        english is hard.

did they just jack up the prices 70% more so you just basically pay retail price?

        • It's hard when people are missing a few commas and verbs here and there.

I highly doubt the citizen 8 series would be 70% off.

      • +1

no way all, watches are 70% off..?
no way, all watches are 70% off..?
no way all watches are 70, % off..?

  • +2

Shocker, Eco-Drive or bust with Citizen.

    • Gotta keep your eyes on the price, though. This is a $99 bargain for someone who just wants to look the part in an office and doesn't care about the watchnerd engineering.

  • Black one sold out

    • that's the nice one, it reminds me of the sarb
