Velocity Frequent Flyer - New Member from Qantas Tips and Tricks

Howdy OzB Crew,

I'm a currently a points hacker, and semi-frequent flyer in Qantas world only (Points Club, Silver QFF), and do a lot of things to maximise points from New credit cards each year, Health Insurance, Woolies Everday Rewards Maximiser ect.

I've never been a velocity frequent flyer, however I have a few flights coming up that are with Virgin (friend had purchased) and thought I might need to open up my horizons and maxmimise velocity as well, especially for places where I can't earn QFF points (Eg Flybuys ect).

I'm likely not going to be getting Credit Cards with Velocity but open to anything else.

What are some key tips and tricks for a new Velocity Member account?

  • Are there any bonus for new customers?
  • Would there be any status matching worth trying if I only have silver QFF?
  • What top things are velocity members doing to maxmimse points?
  • Also heard anecdotely its easier to get access to Virgin lounges?

Any other tips and tricks welcome! Also haven't signed up yet, so if there is a refferal bonus drop your link in and those with most helpful tips happy to return favour.

    1. No
    2. No
    3. Same as Qantas - Churn Cards and sign up offers. Shop at Coles instead of Woolies etc
    4. Less $$$ Required to earn status needed BUT less lounges available.

No referral bonuses so just sign up for free.

  • Grab one of these cards for a bonus 30k points https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/850751. Expires tomorrow!

I got the Virgin Money Flyer Card - $1500 for 2 months for 90k points.

    • Cheers I didn’t realise that about Didi, although it’s only for business accounts.

      • It says:
"New to DiDi? Earn 1,000 Velocity Points*# for you or your business when you link your Velocity Frequent Flyer or business' Virgin Australia Business Flyer account and take your first ride."

Yeah but have you clicked on the Link Now button? You need to enter an ABN.

@bobwokeup: I get points every time with DiDi. Not business.

            • @Cadian Munkey: I agree it should be for both I’m just stating a fact that the only option now is to add an ABN…has anyone else who hasn’t linked checked?

@bobwokeup: In the app, you have the option to click normal or business account. If normal, just asks for first & last names as well as account number.

Our experience is Coles gives us more points than Woollies. Also we needed less points, and fees, to get business class airfares with Qatar (Velocity) than Emirates (Qantas).

Certainly make sure you have a Flybuys membership.
