Long Term File Storage for Photographic Files

Looking at storage options for some of my wife's photographic files i.e. an offline archive.

I had someone recommend I use something called an M-Disk - old school optical drive, but it seems setup cost might be prohibitive, and max storage size per disk is 100Gb?

Wondering if I should use a good old USB hard drive, USB flash drive, or an SD Card?

Thoughts?

  • my dirty mind read the title "Photographic" as something else :(

  • OG pixel, not sure how long it will be supported, but thats the best way to go atm.

  • At that price point/use case I'd just get 2 cheap external drives and put it all on one/get your archive sorted then just copy it over. There's a number of free apps you can use to keep them synced if you make any changes or add anything too. Ideally RAID/NAS is best for pros but if it's just storing you don't need to constant connectivity (ergo increased cost) of those solutions

That plus a 1tb of cloud storage will be the most economical way.
