USB-C Cables - How to Avoid Ones That Don't Fit Well, if at All?

Hello

Not long ago, I had bought some new USB-C Cables, and adapters - only to find that some of them didn't fit very well (e.g. some worked - but only on a bit of an angle etc). Whereas, some of them worked with some devices, but not others.

The main culprit seemed to be protective cases on things like phones/tablets etc.
Even if they did work, the way they would fit, might end up damaging the case and/or marking the body of the device in time.

Others just won't work at all - because the case is just a little too thick, preventing it from connecting properly.

BTW, taking the protective cases off, is not an option. Nor, will I swap the cases for another one - as I have really high quality Spigen cases.

Apart from reading reviews (if there are any)…

Is there any way to tell how well a cable, or adapter - is likely to fit when buying online?

I don't suppose there is an ideal minimum length for the metal part that you insert - to make sure it'll almost always fit any case?
And if there was, how would you find such info?

So, have you got any tips - other than; 'just buy them, and hope for the best'?

Here are some examples of ones I've got which are problematic.

Thank you for your help

Sounds like a case issue, not a cable issue.

So don't blame the cable. Try buying a extended tip USB c cable like this example, which should help. Heaps out there, YMMV

  • It might not be the metal port that is the issue, its the size of the surrounding plastic area of the cable

I have that issue where some of my cables also don't fit into my phone's case - but I have so many chargers and cables lying around I just use a different one
