Free Qantas Bag Tags (Silver, Gold, Platinum, Platinum One, Chairman Status Frequent Flyers Only) @ Qantas

650

NOTE: These bag tags are not the same as Q-tags and have no RFID. They are only a basic bag tag with a spaces to write you details. Hate it all you want, but some may want to flaunt their flying status (different tier colours), plus it’s free, so why not? Personally, I think it looks more classy than those bulky Q-tags.

Qantas is already sending these luggage tags out to its top-tier frequent flyers:

  • Platinum One
  • Chairman’s Lounge members

Those on other frequent flyers tiers:

  • Silver
  • Gold
  • Platinum

Can redeem them on the Qantas website or app with the choice of a Qantas Luggage Tag OR one Green Tier ‘leaf’ to accelerate their progress towards Qantas Green Tier status.

If you can’t find them on the website/app, according to Executive Traveller website, they have reported members successfully requesting them through [email protected] or via the online support page.

Those who earn enough status credits to keep their Gold, Platinum or Platinum One (but not Silver) status for another year are likewise asked to choose between receiving a Qantas Luggage Tag OR a Green Tier ‘leaf’

Lastly, those on lifetime Bronze are not left out. These members have the ‘privilege’ to purchase a red one on their Qantas Marketplace for $20 or 3,480 Qantaroos. I personally find is a bit steep considering it’s free advertising for them.

Still a weird flex, but ok

Here is the order of things:
      1. you post a #truth, plus what seems to be a brag
      2. you get downvoted to hell by people rightly attacking the brag
      3. you backtrack on the #truth because ur a pusssssseeeeh

Silver status IS lame af, though many Silvers don't want to admit it. Actually I once saw a lass having a massive barney with the staff at the Sydney Intl Biz lounge over her inability to get in. As I walked past them she was screaming "BUT I'M A SILVER FREQUENT FLYER!!!!!!!". 'Twas very awesome.

  • +1

Lastly, those on lifetime Bronze are not left out

they get a free tanning bed?

  • +11

I feel they missed a trick here not making them into a holder for AirTags…. they are big enough and seem over-engineered… i mean they are nice and all… but to me… begging to slide an AirTag inside that roundel.

    • +29

They don't want you to airtag your luggage. Then you can see through the bullshit when customer service lies to you about where it is

    • +8

I wouldn’t put an AirTag on the outside of my luggage. At $25–$50 a pop it would be way too easy for someone to nick them.

    • +5

If only there were somewhere else on a suitcase to put one!

    • +2

Why would you put an AirTag on the outside? 🤔

    • Qantas itself is big enough to be a half decent airline, so I guess their new tag is pretty on-brand.

  • +16

I’m all for free stuff but I just can’t bring myself to advertise for Qantas until they clean themselves up.

    • -7

      Aren’t you special

  • +1

I still have a couple of them big old ugly Q-tags. Works fine for me as they're not trendy

    • +2

The q tags at least had a functional purpose. These, ehhh…

  • Thanks OP
I made a request for Gold, let's see if I get it. Might try for Green as well at later date.

  • +10

    Deal or inclusion?
I just got tags auto sent to my mail address because of my status without having to do anything extra . No deal here.
This is driven by earnt status over time - not a deal.

    • -7

"earnt status" - do you mean "bought by your company" and provided to you as an untaxed fringe benefit?

Too many senior public servants are on the gravy train. Otherwise this would all get taxed properly.

      • That’s a big chip on your shoulder

  • -1

How to tell someone you work in FIFO without telling them you work in FIFO.

    • Yes definitely wouldn't know from the orange shirt

  • +4

I’d prefer they just send out the old school tags & use the savings to get their service/flights sorted.
Flew Brisbane to Gladstone return last week with work (which cost nearly $900 for an economy fare booked 3 weeks in advance….FFS!) & spent 4hrs delayed across the 2 flights.

    • -2

Were all the other airlines on time those days?

  • +1

Lucky my whole family has Chairman status. I grabbed 5! Thanks OP!

    • 😂

    • +3

Albo is that you? Say hi to toto for me

      • +1

Toto wears his Chairman’s tag on his collar.

  • -1

There is no such thing called Lifetime bronze… Bronze = no status!

    • +2

      It was a joke bro

  • I wonder how many OZB have P1 or Chairmans status?

    • +1

There are a few P1s around and theres only one Chairmans Lounge Platinum One (CLPO) member I know thats here

      • Chairman lounge is invitation only.

        CEOs asx top 10 etc.

CEOs at that level would bother about bargains?

        • +4

Its not just CEOs, Regional Managers who have high travel accounts with Qantas are also in the program, I know a few mining senior management personnel who commute to Perth from the eastern seaboard are in the program (probably dumping $20-30k a week on Transcon last minute Flexible Business tickets). International managers with high yielding Qantas Accounts way north of 1 million are also considered.

Also, you can gift one Chairmans Lounge membership to a friend or family member (for the same period as to when your pass initiation expires, marked 24 months after you have been accepted). And you can bring in either 1 18+ guest or your immediate family when travelling.

        • probably just have addictive personalities and a nasty OZB habit.

        • Josh Frydenburg probably

        • There is about 30k members so it isn't that unlikely for a few to be members here. Many are politicians too so not all super wealthy.

    • P1 here… AMA

      • AMA?

        • …ask me anything 🙏🏻

          • -1

@Ashburtonian: Was there a second shooter? (Trump rally)

          • @Ashburtonian: I remember before I became CLPO they were just started to invite P1s into CL on one off occasions through an email by the team in Hobart.
            They still doing that?

    • +1

I wonder how many OZB have P1 or Chairmans status?

      Gerry?

    • +1

P1 here - you can earn this easily with multi-leg OW trips. AFF is a great resource. CL is invitation only and a very difficult invitation to achieve.

      • Are you deliberately selecting nasty routes with more legs on non Qantas OW partners?

      • +2

Generally speaking the easiest way to obtain the 2700/3600 SCs needed is going to be QF operated and marketed international business/first flights to far destinations like LHR.

1860 SCs for a return flight from Melbourne to London in First via Sydney is a good enough start with a DSC multiplier.

The biggest issue with OW partners is that the SC rate is severely reduced across the board with varying levels of earn rate for various reasons (0 in a lot of cases in Economy, eg. MH J generally credits as Flex Y)
"First Class" Domestic flights in the US is probably the best SC to $ ratio these days.

This is why for a lot of new people, Qantas is not the best FF program to go to. British Airways needs 35k TPs to get Lifetime Gold, over at Qantas its 75k SCs. For those eligible for a US credit card, you can just spend money with a credit card on anything to obtain status over at American Airlines and obtain OWE in $50-150k USD of spend per year.

  • Already got mine in the mail a bit ago, they are nice and the tan and black goes well

    • Shhh im waiting for mine to arrive and hoping ebay doesnt get flooded and deflates the price :p

  • +4

i just started and im bronze. wheres my poo coloured tag at?

  • Gunna flexy bronze hard

  • -3

Thanks Alan Joyce for paying the free tags….. Or is it chairman Dan Andrew?

  • How can I order the Platinum tag within the Qantas app? Thanks.

  • Also can’t see it on the app or website. Anyone had any joy?

  • Nothing to flaunt about for Qantas.

  • Just attached my Q bag tags I got with silver membership earlier this year, for upcoming flight in a few days. Do these new tags mean my new (older) RFID Q bag tags won’t work anymore? If so, very sad.

    • +1

I flew yesterday from Perth to Melbourne, used my Q-Tag with no issues

      • Sweet, thanks!

    • -1

      read the link

      • Deal link takes me to an enquiry form. Bah.

    • +1

When I got my RFID tags I looked into them, and there were multiple comments online from airline staff saying that if a piece of luggage had gone missing or missed its flight, there were decent odds it was using an RFID tag. A majority of the bags going through have the plain barcode style labels on them, so that's what the system is built around, the RFID functions have been added afterwards, but apparently the workflow for them isn't as reliable.

      • +1

Thanks. Now I can’t wait to use my RFID tags for the first time tomorrow…. tempted to print off barcodes and attach those too, but that defeats the purpose of the RFID tags! 🙄

        • +1

If you attach the RFID tag & also a printed barcode, when you check the bag it will register as two seperate bags due to the two tags.

        • I asked staff for help, and glad I did, checkin was a disaster. Staff unable to get it to work,so we switched to a different bag drop terminal, which also failed. Then I switched from using my boarding pass from my lock screen / wallet, to using the boarding pass within the Qantas app. That time it worked. Weird.
Thankfully I arrived at my destination, as did my checked luggage. YMMV.

  • +1

I want ma bronze bag tag godammit

  • Someone should get one and paint it in VA’s shade of purple

  • Rather they give status credit bonus than a bag tag. Lol

  • +1

    Silver keeper here.
I can confirm they sent me one after I lodged my enquiry through the online support page. There was no question asked and they are super friendly BTW.

We value your continued loyalty during this challenging time. Stay safe and healthy!

Just some universal kind words but at least they were kind.
