I have used Arvixe for two years, and they are the BEST budget hosting provider in my opinion, a lot better than companies like Crazy Domains. They have 24/7 live chat on their website, and most of their packages already come with a free domain name. I highly recommend their Linux hosting plans, I currently have a reseller account with them, that I use to host all of my websites, as well as my family's.

Personal Class - $30 per year (with coupon) - unlimited disk space and bandwidth (in accordance to AUP), can host 6 domains on the account

Personal Class Pro - $48 per year (with coupon) - unlimited disk space and bandwidth (in accordance to AUP), unlimited domains (I have hosted around 10 domains on one of these accounts before, without any issues)

  • Can web applications hosted initiate outbound connections?

For example, could I host an app that in turn calls some external webservices to lookup data from various sources?

    • You would have to ask them about that.

  • The Price is not that attractive for a SoftLayer based company…

    • $2.50 per month for 6 websites hosted and decent customer support, is not a bad deal in my opinion. Having dealt with them and companies like Crazy Domains in the past.

      • The fact that they advertise "unlimited" worries me the most…, its not the price as I can find reliable hosts for $1.50 with apt quotas and proper infrastructure. These guys are running a few servers off an already overused provider in Softlayer Technologies…

        • A lot of hosts advertise unlimited, though if you actually read the AUP and the terms and conditions, you will see that certain types of websites are not allowed on those plans. e.g. You couldn't setup your own file sharing website on the plan.

One way or another, they are good, I have moved many people over to them without a single issue.

  • Maybe they could get the dictionary to change the meaning of the word unlimited while they are doing misogyny?

    • Many web hosts use the words 'unmetered' and 'unlimited', in accordance to their AUP.

      • Unfortunately, yes, there are many companies using this deceitful term. Hence my remark to change the meaning of a word because of its common usage to mean something other than what is in the dictionary, eg unlimited means "The resources of Arvixe and the Internet are limited".

        • Well they are technically offering unlimited usage in accordance to their AUP. As long as you don't host an excluded type of website (e.g. file sharing, proxy etc), you should be fine. By the time you are using a lot of their bandwidth, you are probably using more than your accounts allocated CPU usage etc, so they would make you upgrade that way.

All I am trying to say about Arvixe is that their service is good value for money, reasonably fast servers, little to no downtime, and good customer service. That is really what matters at the end of the day.

        • I think you may need to go look up the definition of unlimited, here is one "without any qualification or exception" ;), eg unlimited space regarding this on their site means, "Anything less than 20 GB (and higher on BusinessClass) which is quite a bit of space goes completely under the radar". Otherwise they claim it is archival.
