If you’re actually interested in this headset, do some research about the software first. It’s utter trash, and features are locked behind it. And the build quality of this thing is quite the step back from the previous model. The Dac itself is cheap $2 plastic. Supposed to be a $735 headset. Also, if your ears are even slightly above small size they will touch the entire interior, including the little ANC bump that will press into you. Aftermarket pads are a must.

    • The ANC bump has since been fixed.

But yes the software is utter trash and will make you regret this every day.

  • Wow…at this price I better be getting eargasms everytime I shoot em boom booms at them hoon hoons.

Wtf. When did gaming headsets get this expensive? RRP at ~$700??!!!! The last gaming headset I bought was like 10 years ago for $100 and it only lasted me a couple years. I've since moved to a proper audiophile set of headphones + mic and never looked back, which I am still using. This pricing is ridiculous

This one stays consistently over $550 as well.

But like duckduck mentioned it somehow still has build quality issues.

I bought some m50s like 15 years ago for around $100 that are still completely fine and great build quality.

    • Recommendations for audiophile headphones for gaming? I'm also now thinking about getting myself away from the gaming headset trap. Barely used the mic anyway these days

Get ready to go down a rabbit hole - you can potentially spend hours looking into this haha

It depends on what games you play and what type of sound you need. If you're playing games where sound is really important (e.g. FPS where you need to be able to hear where someone is and their proximity to you) you'll want headphones that have really good soundstage (which will mostly be open-back).

If you're not playing these type of games then it probably doesn't really matter what type of audiophile headphone you get as it will mostly suit your gaming needs so you just need to consider what else you might be using your headphones for (music, movies etc - whether you want higher end or lower bass, something balanced etc), your budget, comfort etc. Even an entry level set of cans would be better than your average gaming headphone.

The other thing you may want to consider is getting an external DAC and amp to drive the headphones but that's another rabbit hole. If you're only looking at entry-level audiophile headphones for gaming, then it shouldn't be an issue. However, some headphones will require amps to drive it otherwise it won't sound like how it was intended to sound.

My setup is a pair of HD6xx + cheap XLR mic from Amazon hooked up to Behringer UM2 audio interface.

The HD6xx are highly rated for their price - definitely bang for buck (you'll see deals for them on Ozbargain from time to time).

Disclaimer: I'm not a pro audiophile. I tend to only do intense research into headphones when I want to buy something so I haven't looked into it for years so I won't be able to give you any recommendations other than the HD6xx

        • Good comments, and HD6xx (I’ve got them) are great - but are renown for having a very narrow soundstage (excel at vocals and instrument timbre)

The PC38X is the more lauded gaming headphone (well, headset given attach mic).

  • i woudl wait till they go half price :D I did that with the Astro A50's

I've been using a pair for the last 6 months.. happy with build quality, however my cons are..

    • Software is rubbish. I uninstalled it after a few days.
    • Batteries seem to last 1-2 days.
    • Battery cover is annoying.
    • ANC is meh..

At $447 I would pass and consider headphones (Sony WH1000XM4) and standalone mic.

The battery only last 2 days?!

      What the heck

    • Just throwing this out here, I've been using the Arctis 7+ for two years. Cost me $350 and I couldn't be happier. Usually gets me through the whole work week and gaming at night with a brief 1h top-up charge on Thursday. Can't recommend this set enough. That'd the smart option IMO

This is what my brother exactly did. He was shopping for a gaming headset and realized he already had the XM4 a few years back that he doesn't use that much aside from when he's travelling, and then he just bought a standalone mic. Way better than any of these >$500 gaming ones.

  • Gaming headphones are a stupid
tax - find some headphones you'd like to listen to music on, buy a mic cable - done.

  • I think the standout for these cans is the three input options (2xUSB on back, and of course Bluetooth)…they actually make a reasonable productivity headset for this reason - not a lot of options to do that, and if you want a similar commercial headset like a Plantronics/Poly Savi you’ll be up around the same price. The commercial headsets will have a more robust wireless performance, but probably won’t sound as good.

Also the fact that it comes with two batteries can be very useful.

Can’t comment on software. I run on Mac and use these as is. The hardware base station does all I need.

If you don’t need the multiple inputs and hot swappable (not really, but sort of) battery, then this is overkill. Look elsewhere.

Wicked pads give you more space…but I didn’t find them comfortable myself. My ears aren’t very big and don’t protrude much so hasn’t been a problem for me.

Mine started to play up after a year, the mute button would flicker on and off by itself, the screen would start to flicker.
Got a replacement through RMA which died after 6 months and I was told they can't do another replacement based off a replacement. Fun.

I’d probably recommend the cloud alphas over these.
My partner has the alphas and a big head and ears so they fit well. Battery lasts well over a week too.
As others said, software for this headset is just rubbish.

I don’t think this headset is well worth the money.

  • These are garbage.

Cloud III Wireless are much better value. Maxwell if you want to spend up.
For a direct ANC competitor, go with the EPOS H3pro Hybrid. Much better tuning.

  • Very interested in these, but not sure they're worth the price bump over the standard Nova 7, or if I should just go with HyperX wireless.

  • just buy a good headset with a modmic, gamer shit sucks

  • Only 2 day battery life, boo burns

  • Anyone mentioned the Maxwell? In this price bracket you might as well stretch. Best sound quality of wireless ‘gaming’ sets - but known for some build quality/longevity issues too.

  • Surprised to find out these are crappola. I have enjoyed my arctis pro wireless and the double battery feature is a life saver

  • In my opinion, been using this for 6months now and have no issue with the software, everyone seems to complain but not giving details to what's wrong.

Had to customized a bit in the Steelseries software suite, but works wonderfully with automatic sound profiles for different programs/games.

That said, do enjoy the multiple connectivity and ease, and two batteries.

The only con so far I have is the LCD screen on the dock doesn't refresh if left idle (over 4 hours) - not sure if its cause they way I connect it to my monitors USB hub and not directly to my PC. Pressing the knob refreshes it.
