1440p Monitor Recommendations for More Competitive Gaming

Looking for a good 1440p monitor for mainly esports games but also a good amount of singleplayer games. Atleast 160hz is preferred while 240 is probably out of my budget unless if its <$400. I don't really mind HDR if its there then sure but I would prefer to just focus on monitor that runs decent hz and minimal issues like ghosting while being affordable. $400 is my absolute limit although id much prefer it to be around the 300 mark.

Someone recommended this monitor but there aren't many reviews and I saw someone complain about ghosting. does anyone have or know about this monitor? its very cheap and I don't mind if it looks slightly worse than other monitors

Any monitor recommendations will be appreciated and thank you for your help

  • Could wait for the next sub-$300 deal on this if you don't need something asap, currently cheapest at $329 with the $20 off eBay code.

I saw someone complain about ghosting.

As I understand it, this is not a problem with the monitor itself, but with VA type panels. When choosing a monitor, you generally have the option of IPS or VA panels. Curved monitors usually have VA panels, while flat monitors usually have IPS panels. VA panels generally have better contrast, whereas IPS have better response times (less ghosting), better colour gamut and better viewing angles. I think, among the cheaper price ranges, IPS monitors are more popular than VA monitors.

Personally, I'm looking at getting a curved VA monitor because I want to use it mainly for productivity/media consumption, and I like the idea of the screen kind of wrapping around me and I wouldn't care so much about ghosting if I use it for gaming because I'm not too picky, and not much of a gamer.

    • rtings recommendations follow a budget more generous than most ozb'ers and they also do not reflect availability in aus

  • I've just bought a Gigabyte GS27QC for $300 today, can let you know how it is after I pickup tomorrow. Based off the few reviews out there, it's a newer VA panel with less ghosting than other budget options. Rtings measured close to a 5000:1 contrast ratio as well, which is very good.

    • Apart from a much lower brightness than what I'm used to, I've got no qualms recommending this monitor. Scrolling through X and other dark mode applications and I'm not detecting any black smearing.
