I Think This Is The Cheapest Invisalign in Aus? Catch?

Hey all

I'm shopping for Invisalign.

My research tells me that there's broadly 3 options

  1. Get Invisalign locally
  2. Get Invisalign internationally e.g. turkey/Thailand
  3. Get an Invisalign alternative locally

1 - I think this is the most premium option. I don't wish to do this. I think similar/identical results can be achieved with a lesser known name

2 - I don't think it's worth the risk/headache to travel overseas for consult etc so I'm not interested in this option also

3 - this is my preferred option. My research shows me that the below link is the cheapest. $4k for an "advanced" case.

https://australiansmileclinics.com.au/

So here are my questions:

  1. Has anyone seen Invisalign (or similar) for $4k or less? If so, where? (Domestic)
  2. Anything to watch out for with Invisalign alternatives?
  3. Any reviews or experience with this company?

I'm thinking of biting the bullet but thought to check here first :)

Thanks!

Good luck getting honest online reviews, dentists are very litigious.

IMO, you get what you pay for…

Sounds like jv has experience defaming a dentist.

Not that it means much, but the reviews for the Sydney branch (noticed you're in Sydney), seem kinda sketchy.

Some of them are reviewing both the Brisbane and Sydney branches, some have only ever given 1 review, etc

  • Depends how difficult the case is, I’m doing a 28 tray invisalign problem, was a little under 6k, prepaid all upfront. Going through my usual dentist. Results been great.

FFS. That's a Grand Seiko which ironically would have looked really really amazing on you.

I would have noticed the watch before any flaws in your teeth. FFS.

If I had that much ‘fun money’ I’m thinking a well looked after 2nd hand Tudor root beer…

      • Damn, I hadn't realised that Grand Seikos were so cheap.

This would have looked good on Jimothy.

A perfect representation of himself: elegant, classy, multi faceted with a little bit of sass.

  • Option 4 - sell a kidney and buy full priced Invisalign. I have it on good authority that you'll be fine with one kidney.

Having said that, it's illegal to sell a kidney in Australia, so you might be back to travelling internationally. Why not do both the kidney sale and Invisalign while you're overseas? If you're determined to do it in Australia, then make sure you get paid in crypto for your kidney.

Are you aware of the Smile Direct Club lawsuits (which ultimately caused the company to go bankrupt?)

    https://www.findlaw.com/legalblogs/uncategorized/smiledirect…

    Get Invisalign internationally e.g. turkey/Thailand
    Get an Invisalign alternative locally

There might be reasons why Invisalign costs more than others.

This reddit post is also worth a read since many mail-order teeth alignment kits are often sent out to customers without any dentist or orthodontist advice or consultations, meaning in some cases your teeth may not align properly or cause root resorption (i.e. loss to parts of your tooth). Speak to your dentist about this, invisalign treatments need continual checkups by an orthodontist so that they can track the movement of your teeth and make adjustments if your teeth are not moving the right way.

    • What does smile direct club have to do with the link I shared above?

    • Also it looks like this company is offering actual dentist treatment as opposed to DIY in the mail

Smile Direct Club australiansmileclinics (edit) uses a brand called SureSmile and one of the reasons they're cheaper than Invisalign and other clinics is because the people who look at you teeth are dentists as opposed to orthodontists.

Difference between the 2 explained here
        https://norwestortho.com.au/dentists-vs-orthodontists/

Dentists specialize in oral health issues / gum disease but orthodontists specialise in the alignment of teeth. (they first need to complete a Dentist degree, then a further 3 year orthodontist degree)
This isn't to say that dentists are not qualified to prescribe and sell you aligner products, just that orthodontists are a safer bet if you want better health outcomes. This isn't me pulling info out of my butt, it's advice that a dentist has given me before.

It's hard to say what the outcome is since nobody here knows your teeth better than an ortho does — so it's a good idea to make a trip to one (obtain a referral from your dentist) and see what they say before you commit to a $4000 plan that may or may not work for you. These sort of treatments sometimes require some creativity and on-the-go adjustments that might only be offered to you if you visit an orthodontist, as opposed to a general dentist.

  • Probably worth biting the bullet to find a decent dentist that will be there for the journey. We paid for Invisalign for our kids using Denticare, and all check ups were included.

I am currently using Smile Path Aligners https://smilepath.com.au/

$1.6k, seen discounts on it lower then this price too

    • How are you finding it? How long have you been using them? Are you just closing gaps?

  • Hi OP, I have gone through the treatment with Australian Smile Clinics (in QLD). I had a great experience and am super happy with the results (they use Angel Aligners).

Feel free to PM me if you have any particular questions.

  • I have heard in the past that Invisalign itself is very expensive for the dentist just to get in (around that $4k-5 mark), and there's not a lot of margin. I'm not a dentist and I don't use invisalign.or anything either, but It might be worth being very careful if the prices you get quoted seem "too cheap".

  • I went through Straight Smile Centre and the service has been great. My case is a little more complicated that the average, all up just over $8k and I'm almost at the end of my treatment. 60 aligners initially, after that there was still some misalignment so another 20 aligners, recently finished those and one tooth is still being a little stubborn, waiting on the last couple to fix that and I'm done. All covered under the initial service charge.

I've had to attend the clinic a few times to have attachments glued back on, as well as polishing (IPR) between various teeth to allow for better movement. Not something you get with an online service. Upon getting the 2nd set of aligners, I needed to have some elastic band attachments from top to bottom, this fixed my overall bit and a better smile as well.

If you have fairly small corrections to make, an online service will probably do the job. But otherwise, you might not get the results you were after. Once it's all done, they'll do some shaping of the teeth to perfect the smile and some whitening.

Very happy with the service overall and would highly recommend it.

  • I feel like this is one of those things you don't want to cheap out on in life.

The usual "anything that connects you to the earth" eg shoes, tyres, bed and chairs should also include "anything to do with your teeth".

You get what you pay for.
