Been getting the $5 find my™️ compatible trackers in Aliexpress, I don’t see any difference so far.

    • +1

      What about battery life?

    • +2

Same, can’t comment on battery as they are only a month old but ok so far. My son got 4 for under $20,not sure brand but probably all the same.

The main difference is that the $5 trackers do not have UWB, which means you will not be able to get the precise tracking.

      • I wonder if no UWB is a good thing in some cases because it makes it harder for thieves to locate and remove if hidden in a car or on a bike etc?

Not sure if other phone could be used to precisely locate the airtag. They would just get a message saying "airtag is found travelling with you" but only an authorised phone could find the tracker with precision

The main difference is you do not get precise tracking when within 20m (good for if your losing stuff around the house.). Apart from that there isn’t much fictional difference.

Honestly I've never ended up using that (aside from showing it off). It's just the sound that works for me.

Do you have a link to the ones you've used? I'd be very interested to get some to compare at that price.

Not sure sorry was my son who got them

        • Does it mean? With the Ali express ones my location or items location cloud be accessed by other third parties? Privacy related issues?

          • @cisco: While it's technically not outside the realm of possibility, no, other people aren't going to be able to use these to track your location. It relies on a capability Apple has released, communicating with nearby Apple devices with internet connectivity to ping location data back to Apple's servers to then allow you to look up the location of the device using the FindMy app.

I’ve got a mix of Apple and AliExpress specials. Airtags have the precision finding function (UWB) and I’ve found the battery life to be better.

This post also made me notice the AliExpress one in my car has randomly stopped responding…

  • Any suggestion on where is the cheapest place to get the AirTag battery replacement please?

    • +2

ebay or aliexpress or temu. I purchased 10 pack rechargable 2032 batteries for $10 and a tiny charger for $2

    • +1

just normal 2032 batteries which you can get good quality for less than 10 AUD for 5 from Amazon AU

Get them in-store or from Amazon, otherwise you risk them either being DOA or only lasting a few days. It's happened to me.

Lithium batteries are the dumbest thing to cheap out on, buy a known name brand battery from Bunnings or any major retailer.

The battery last 1 year, it’s not like you’ll be replacing frequently.
