Has Anyone Used Matsumo Brand Head Gaskets & Head Bolts?

Hi,

I need to replace the head gasket and headbolts but I'm on a tight budget. I came across 'Matsumo' brand head gaskets and head bolts on 'onlineautoparts' website, but can't find much on them. I suspect they're maybe generic house-brand as they mention part number 'CHG350', & searching 'CHG350' brings a couple other brands (ie Platinum, sold at SCA).

One thing I'm not sure on is whether they're MLS gaskets or just steel, as they don't mention MLS.

Matsumo Head Bolts

Anyone used them or know of anyone that;s used them??

I think you are right that they are just generics rebranded.

For a 20yo N16 the gasket will be fine. Definitely be an improvement on the original 20yo.

Do you really need to install new head bolts for an N16? It's not like your running high compression or adding power enhancing mods. Then again, for $30 might as well just do it especially if they are torque to yield.

    • Not sure about head bolts. Procedure says to torque to xNm followed by torque 50/55 degrees. Everyone I've spoken to says they would use Torque to Yield bolts therefor one-time-use bolts.

For $30 just swap them. It's very unlikely the originals would be no good for your use case but while your in there……….

Definitely don't need APR or anything crazy like that.

  • Why are you replacing the head gasket?

I wouldn't use torque to yield. I hope you know the order the bolts need to be tightened and that you don't tighten them to the specified torque first up.

    • Cause head gasket needs replacing. I was told at the time I needed TTY bolts as I torque bolts to Nm then angler torque them for final torque. I don't even know if the bolts are TTY or not as I've never come across bolts that specifically say they're TTY or not.

Torque sequence is in the manual.

  • Is that really any cheaper than a genuine Nissan head gasket? Chick your vin in Partsouq, I found a random N16 VIN and the genuine part is $81.80 delivered

    • What’s the partsouq shipping speed like these days? I’ve heard people say anything from a few days up to a couple of months at certain times.

Never had a problem with delivery. Always 5 to 7 days using DHL.

    • I found Partsouq shipping shipping costs kill any savings. I'll check them for HG anyways. I was gonna call Nissan today but lost track of time.

DHL have a minimum charge. I usually purchased a couple or a few items at a time. That way the freight cost wasn't to bad. A genuine SCV plus freight was $225 less than OEM.

BTW. Don't forget the rocker cover gasket.

        • I just checked Partsouq again, good prices but shipping pushes it too much up

          10x Head Bolts $31.60
          1x Head gasket $37.31
          Shipping $56.21

Rocker cover gasket I already have :).

Hmm. Please post the OEM prices from Nissan when you get it.

Have you had the head and block checked out?

            • @CurlCurl: Block/head's been checked. I'll call Nissan tomorrow, hopefully gasket & bolts aren't too expensive but being Australia, I suspect gasket alone will be at least $80.

Would the Nissan gasket be any better than an after-market?

            • @CurlCurl: Contacted Nissan. Did not expect the high prices.

              head gasket: $153.70ea

              head bolts: $11.65ea ($116.50 for 10x)

So $270 total. Couldn't get part numbers. They said they don't give out part numbers :/.

The Partsouq sites gave me two different part numbers for each bolts & head gasket

              head gasket P/N: 110444M710 / 110444M700
              head bolts P/N: 110564M500 / 110564M510

Not sure of the difference, seems only 1 part number of each is in-stock

Alternatively. 'Amayama', Headgasket with shipping is alright price ($54.81. unknown if import gst is included) but head bolts are $70 inc shipping :/. Shipping time though is about 1 month.

              https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/269099/114028/amayama_…

If only Partsouq had cheaper shipping.

              • @Widget: Am I missing something here?

Buying from Partsouq is a no brainer.

Partsouq price including shipping, delivery in 7 days max $125.12

Amayama price including shipping, delivery in 30 days $126.71

Nissan Australia $270 pick up this week.

I've never paid customs/import duty or anything extra other than than the invoice price from Partsouq.

                • @CurlCurl: Not missing anything, looks about right. Nissan (Australia) head gaskets on back order though, so may be as long as Amayama or longer. Partsouq is certainly the winner here.
The only thing I'm unsure of though is there differences in part numbers from Partsouq.

                  • +1

@Widget: As Amayama say 110444M700 I would go with that but, I have a contact at a Multi vehicle Dealeship in Sydney. Message me your VIN. I will contact him. Hopefully he maybe able to get the the Nissan part number number. Cant promise anything as he is in the Mitsubishi division.

  • Would the Nissan gasket be any better than an after-market?

If you intend keeping the car, I would use genuine. Never had to replace a head gasket and bolts, if I did they would be OEM.

I always use OEM radiator cap, water pump, fan clutch and thermostat.

  • I can't comment specifically on the gasket, but I have used Onlineautoparts in-house brands, namely Tora, and found the quality to be perfectly acceptable for the price.
