Is My 2006 Civic Hybrid at The End of Its Lifespan?

I was just driving normally, and when I went through the roundabout, I stepped on the brakes, and the engine idled and turned off (auto stop) everything was so normal.

But then when I released the brakes, my engine wouldn't start up again, so I was stuck in the middle of the roundabout. I had to restart the engine to get out of there. Does this mean my car is nearing the end of its lifespan?

No one can answer this properly out of thin air. We don't know the condition, how much mileage it's done, it's service history, whether or not has any corroded wiring, sensor malfunctions, blocked pipes, battery issue or anything else.

Take it to a mechanic for a diagnostic inspection.

has it been like it for a while? or this just happened recently? it sounds like your car gearbox stuffed, mine Nissan Dualis had similar experience, cost me $4k to recondition the gearbox and it is back as good as new but to be sure, you have to bring to your local mechanic for a test. Good luck!

Could just be the battery - if you need to ask Ozbargain, chances are you should head to a mechanic.

chances are you should head to a mechanic.

      or maybe an electrician?

Don't bother telling us how many km it has done. That isn't relevant to your question, we'll consult our crystal balls instead.

  • Could be anything.

Like I had problem with a car that had similar issues. It turned out to be a loose battery connection. The sudden braking moved the battery and the power was cut. Engine died. Then I could restart. Couldnt work it out but got worse and then car wouldnt start, thats when NRMA came out found battery and connections loose and fixed it.

My 2006 Civic Hybrid at The End of Its Lifespan?

I had this happen to me not that long ago.

You need to insert another $2 coin…

  • Need more information.

  • Have you checked the oil level?
Tried to help some kids get their car started the other day, very similar symptoms. There was no oil in the engine so I sent them to the nearest Repco. Not sure how they got on.

why havent you permanently disabled auto stop start yet?

  • Probably need to get it checked out by a mechanic to answer that question. But, as a general rule, Hondas live forever if they're maintained properly - should be easily good for 300,000+ kms.
