  • How's it compare with their old stuff, in your view?

Very different. There are a handful of tracks on there that are up there with the best of what they've produced. 'The Narcissist' is great. Its not as up-beat or high-tempo but its a very good album and fitting for where they are at 'age wise'. The other band mates input is noticeable. I prefer 'The Magic Whip'.

Have you listened to it? Any thoughts?

I haven't yet. Am curious but the older I get the more I feel diminished when I get excited for what turns out to be a bit of a sad effort on the part of an artist I had regarded as very personal reference point.

I'll have a listen at some point on the basis of your recommendation, ta

imo reminiscent of and best since their early/mid-'90s albums :)

@0jay @tonester Let me know. Keen to hear some others first impressions and progressive listens.

I was a bit bemused the first time I heard it, but it grew on me.

Presumably we're both of a similar era. Have you listened to Liam Gallagher and John Squire's album? Thoughts, impressions?

@Barry off EastEnders: sorry, haven’t listened to either - solo acts generally aren’t as good as when they’re in a band imo

stone roses were good, not much of an oasis fan - for britpop, besides blur, it was more the likes of pulp, supergrass, suede

            • @tonester: Agree with you on that completely and that's actually the the aspect that sets this album apart - unlike Liam's solo albums that are centered around his vocals with some session musicians, this album sounds like a band. All songs are written by Squire, very clever lyrics, Kurstin plays bass and the former REM drummer (after Bill Berry) is the fourth, his drumming is excellent on this. Well worth a listen even if you're not an Oasis fan.

Supergrass are fantastic - The early stuff, Life on Other Planets and Road to Rouen are exceptional.

Edit: This sounds like it could have been the third Stone Roses album IMO.
