Minimum connection time in Perth

I'll arrive into Perth International (T1) on AirAsia, and would like to make a Qantas flight from the Domestic terminal (T3) 1 hour and 15 minutes later.

I will be travelling with carry on only. I can use the express lane at immigration. I'll do online check-in and go direct to the gate.

… Assuming Air Asia arrives on time, I know it's a ridiculously short layover, but is it possible? Alternatives are a 12 hour layover (and an extra $500 for the flight) or a 25 hour layover (and a hotel nearby over night).

T1 and T3 are two separate buildings 16-20 minutes drive apart.
    I don’t like your chances.

      • Clear immigration in 20 minutes.
      • drive over in 20 minutes.
      • Find the new gate in 20 minutes!

      … 15 minutes to spare ???

        Clear immigration in 20 minutes.

Not if they screen you and your carry-on. Also depends on your seat and which runway you've landed on you may still be on the airplane 20 mins after landing.

        Drive over in 20 minutes.

I see you have a car with engine running parked at the pick up/drop off area.

Find the new gate in 20 minutes!

I mean it's your tickets. Good luck.

AirAsia x will prob arrive early and the Qantas flight will be delayed I reckon you’ll be fine

This has been my thinking too 😀

I have more confidence in Air Asia, than I do Qantas! At least I dont have any luggage for them to throw about!

  • T3 is quick and efficient.

If you are held up it will be at T1 clearance.

Chcek the flight history for your Air Asia service. For example, D7236 KUL-PER has excellent on-time performance.

This will be impressive if it works or funny if it doesn't so it's a win win for the OzBargain forums. Please keep us updated.

It'll be bloody tight if both are on time. Is your Qantas fare a full fare so if you miss it, you can reschedule/refund?

As others have said, T1/T3 are not joined, there is a bus every 20 mins.

Your only hope is AirAsia arrives early and Qantas is running late!

I would allow at least 2 hours to do this with carry on, 2.5 maybe 3 hours with checked in luggage.

  • I mean i wouldn't. If you're stuck waiting for the transfer bus or there's a small delay in checkin you'll be SOOL, especially if boarding closes some 10 minutes before takeoff.

  • no chance of making it in time.

  • Depending on the time of day, the domestic security screening can take a while even with priority access due to all the FIFO workers - usually the early mornings.
