85 Inch or Higher Good Value Yet?

I still don't have a TV I'm one of those people with only a desktop pc and mobile phone for movies and TV series.

I remember a few years ago i looked at the price value of 65 to 75 inch TV's just for simple media consumption nothing too enthusiast and I think 55 to 65 inch was the best value at the time.

Anyone done any research recently and can say if 85 inch or larger has become viable yet.

For me personally I'm avoiding OLED and anything with any screen burn issues in case i decide to hook my pc up to it.

Honestly will just be used maybe for Netflix and etc.

I think 4k is a good idea now.

So what's the ozbargain favourite now for over 75 inches.

Still not even sure if I will bite on a TV now because I know whatever I will get I will be stuck with it forever.

Might be waiting my whole life just for 100 inches or larger.

Generic ass post. How would we know what your situation is?

    • What details would you need to make this process run smoother?

  • The question is entirely based on your own perception of "viable" and we're not going to be able to answer that for you.

What does viable mean to you? Price per square metre of viewing area? Energy consumption?
Have you even bothered to look at what 85" TVs are selling for?

    • I guess I will be sitting quite close or normal distance.

Not going for high end but definitely not washed out somewhere in the middle.

Energy consumption well lower is better but I guess quality comes first in this instance.

I think some good ones are around the $2700 mark.

      How did I do?

If you need any more details from me feel free to ask.

This will be mainly used for movies and tv shows and I don't need the deepest blacks.

I guess the only convenient thing might be the ability to load some apps in there like disney plus, binge, netflix, amazon prime and well a browser would be beneficial for those free tv shows and movies sites.

If I do plan to game which I most likely won't anything I get in this size range should be alright not an issue.

But yeah it will just mainly be something to watch shows and TV on nothing major.

Definitely not getting super budget washed out tier.

Something I won't regret looking at for a long long time but nothing crazy high end.

I think others mentioned TCL C855 that is looking like a good contender.

  • I would recommend a 2nd hand 85” Sony. They can be had in perfect working order for sub 2k.

    • Which ones might be good at looking at now?

      • X950G, X9000H, X90J, X90K, X90L

Earlier this morning, I went to JB Hi-Fi again to browse TVs. It seems to have become a routine visit to the shopping centre. I spoke with a staff member I know, who suggested that unless you're buying OLED TVs, you should go for the TCL C855 and pair it with an additional 4K setup box like Apple TV or Fire Stick. In terms of technology, Samsung is the firm market leader, but TCL C855 is the best value option.

    • yeah that TCL looks like really good value.. I think aiming for a 1k 85 inch 4k TV is the plan

  • Might be waiting my whole life just for 100 inches or larger.

that sounds like you need medical intervention not a TV

    • what is your recommendations

Try the power cord whilst plugged in, screen might be a bit crunchy….

  • Based on manufacturer specs the 85 inch TCL 855 is going to add about $25/month to your power bill, because i) it is Mini LED and ii) 85 inch. You can halve those additional costs with a decent 65 inch, regular LED panel. Also the 85 is harder to install or move in the future. Just things to have in mind when you decide whether you 'need' such a large screen.
