Need to get the annual CPR refresher certificate for the job. Is it possible do it online only in VIC? Either way, can you please recommend any budget options in VIC?

No. They have to witness you doing proper cpr technique to give you a pass. And have Staying Alive playing in the background.

  • There are certain practical requirements of the task that must be completed satisfactorily for you to be deemed content. The assessment requirements outlined in training.gov.au essentially state that it must be conducted face-to-face

EDIT: I have used CBD College in Sydney for some of their courses and I recommend them, I believe they have a $69 sale on too at the moment. Otherwise Australia Wide First Aid is also pretty good and their course is $49.

  • You'll have to check with different training providers in VIC.

You may be able to do the St John Ambulance NSW's online CPR course. How it works is you have some pre-learning to do in your own time (and possibly the knowledge assessment too?). Some content is delivered via an online platform and then you'll will be observed performing CPR via webcam. And yes, this does give you the HLTAID009 unit of competency at the end if you're competent.

EDIT: A quick search shows that St John VIC also offers the same course but you will need to arrange a second person to do the skills assessment.

  • Yeah you can do it online. I've used both First Aid Pro (https://www.firstaidpro.com.au/zoom-first-aid-courses/) and St John of God (https://www.stjohnvic.com.au/first-aid-training/first-aid-co…). Both were pretty good, St John of God were probably a touch better but went online because I needed to get the refresher done in a pretty short timeframe and couldn't get into any physical classes.

They basically ship you out an inflatable dummy that has a plastic rib cage/cover that clicks as you do the compressions. You're online the whole time and need to have a decent amount of space so the assessor can see you do the compressions properly.

The in-person classes with the proper CPR dummies are better, but found the online version good enough particularly just for the refresher. I probably wouldn't do the full First Aid Course online or if it was the first time I'd done the CPR training.
