Is Telstra and JB HiFI (including TGG) parting ways?

For years was on Telstra Data Plan with Bonus Data signed up through JB HiFi.

Just received email from Telstra stating that from August the plan will change from a JB Hi-Fi & The Good Guys that is accessible through Telstra app, will move to JB HiFi plan and will need to download JB app to access the details of the service. The service will still be connected to Telstra. Monthly payment will stay the same but will loose bonus data, basically my data will go down from 400GB/m to 200GB/m. for the same money.
Also won't be getting Telstra points for payments anymore.

To me it sounds like Telstra and JB(TGG) are parting ways.

So another question, all these deals that JB is advertising atm, with bonus data on Telstra, will they all be lost from August for new customers as well?

Has anyone else received same or can share more information?

Cheers

Looks like JB/TGG are becoming MVNO. Like boost, its still telstra network but billing/ customer service would be jb/tgg.

Boost customer service is done by Telstra.

      That's why it's gone to $h1t.

      • What IS Boost customer service?

More like ol fart G.H. has thrown enough tantrums…

    • Gh dumped telstra years ago.

      • One of the two did not need the other.
Or the one 51% owned by the govt had to actually adhere to some sort of accc rule.
Some flatearthers do stand behind their peers.

  • It’s like the Everyday Mobile offer from Woolies, which uses Telstra

It is a bit confusing that JB are selling "Telstra" plans with fixed contract lengths, when Telstra themselves have been advertising that they don't do fixed contracts anymore for years now.

    • Same as the advertised bag checks at Colesworth. Just because they say "you have to" does not actually gives them the right.

  • Could just be as suggested above that jb are rebranding telstra products, like aldi, but a different scale.

  • Here is my vague recollcrion of hn telco history
    Analogue
    * telstra
    1993
    *Optus became a partner.
    1994
    *vodafone becomes a partner
*optus becomes major partner in digital.
    1996
    *telstra becomes major partner again
    *vodafone increases market share
    1997
*Optus becomes major partner again (rugby league related)
    2002
    *Telstra become major partner again
Not sure what happened in between, but come 2016 Optus is the sole partner with hn and has been since.

    • More like Singtel being desperate enough to deal with jerks.
Who knows, maybe they can play landlords in a background swap deal.

  • Found this post op, i was on the 400gb per month for years on jb hifi mobile broadband. Telstra screwed up and cancelled my plan. They cannot resume my service number as it was on an old system. If this incident didn’t happen to me i believe they would drop my bonus data to 200gb.

All new services signed with jb will now have to use jb app and cannot collect telstra points. This change came few months ago from what i was told by jb staff.

I ended up signed new 200gb plan to get the ipad m2 deal. I am hoping jb would offer the 400gb again.

  • Telstra is also ending the 400gb mobile broadband plan sold by them at $90 in Aug.

I suspect the 400gb you are on and i was on with jb hifi are actually the same plan from telstra except we paid $69.

So ending in Aug seems to be as what you received in email.

Another downside is with service line now fully owned by jb, you can’t ask for $10 off discounts anymore.

  • Late to the party on this one as I neglected my emails. So unless I'm on a really awesome plan with JB, there's no real reason to stay with them? I do like having all Telstra services on the one bill … I like not being locked into a contract …unless there's an awesome gift card offer to make it worth my while, which doesn't seem to be the case at the moment, I may be better off back at Telstra?

    Am I missing something?

  • Just received a Telstra email to say my $45 plan is changing to $52, removing all discounts.
So my $35/month discounted plan will become $52. FML.. Cost of living increases just never ends.
