Hi, I saw a pair of Binoculars on sale $39.99 at Aldi this weekend & I wondering if they are sturdy enough for children or very flimsy?
I was also hoping to use these for viewing occasional comets or two.
Thanks

Cheap flimsy binocular haters love this one simple trick.
Optics make sense. Cheers
Hard to tell anything on those specs and it looks like Aldi have never sold it before so it's impossible to tell, really.
As @pegaxs mentioned, going by weight is a good bet. A pair of basic nikon binoculars that this seems to be a knockoff of is $200 and weighs 900g. If it's modeled on those and isn't just entirely made of plastic, it would be a fantastic buy (I wouldn't expect the level of clarity in the vision of the Nikons, but looking at stuff would at least be possible).
looks alright from the photo
how can you tell the lens quality from the photo?
well i cant.
but for 39 from an aldi with easy returns why not try.
the construction looks fine to me.
but as i said in the comment below, the upclose g2 as highlighted by @87percent for $50 looks better (returns could be a hassle i guess if it didnt live up to expectations though)
I bought the CELESTRON UpClose G2 from Amazon for $50 last year. Been using them to look at the night sky, and they’re pretty good
looks like they are 50% off at teds too atm - would be cool to use for stars, my two young kids been asking me about stars and space more and more.
Like most binoculars, ok for daylight watching of birds or landscapes or etc.
Not good for astronomy.
As suggested, get a pair and returned if unhappy.
Win-win option.
50mm would be too big and heavy for young kids…
I was also hoping to use these for viewing occasional comets or two.
Get a telescope.
I have Heritage 150 Table top Dobsonian but it is hassle to set it up for meteor showers :)
I bought the $79 spotting scope for shooting from Aldi. It works, but the optical quality is terrible. At 25m it's a bit blurry. At 50m it's completely useless. I purchased a $300 Gosky scope and the difference in quality is amazing. Hopefully Aldi's binoculars are better than their scopes.
If the binoculars are for children they'll probably have a lot of fun regardless of the quality. Might not be worth spending a lot more as they'll probably quickly grow bored and return to their phones :-)
Go down, pick up the box. Do they feel sturdy enough? Cheap plastic ones will feel very light and cheap.
If they do feel sturdy enough, buy a pair and take them home and see if they are ok to use, if not, take them back for a refund.
