  • In the market for an air fryer for a 5 person family… is this a good contender at this price or can I do better?

    • -3

      Kmart 9l dual tray $119 https://www.kmart.com.au/product/9l-twin-air-fryer-43096657/…

You're only paying for the brand with this one (and wifi module presumably)

      • +2

Definitely not the same quality but good alternative if price is a factor

My mother in law has a Kmart one ( the basket and handle is flimsier and doesn't let you shake as easily and the heating/circulation isn't as good) and asked if she could have my Philips XXL. Which i gave and ended up buying the XXXL which is even better

      • +1

That’s fairly poor information. The Kmart one is good value for money but in no way is close to the Philips one in build quality nor does it cook as well.
I’d go the Kmart one as a first air fryer or if you only use occasionally, but if you are a daily user I would recommend spending the extra.

      • +1

        Definitely not the same quality.

There's a reason the Kmart stuff is cheaper.

Quality? Its a benchtop appliance mate, they both have the same warranty period anyway.

Airfryers by design are simple, its a coil and a fan.

          • -1

@StingyShopper: That warranty will come in handy when it burns your house down.

          • +1

@StingyShopper: Look I don't want to sound like a dick but i'll just say different people have different standards of quality for their food. So that could be a determining factor in why you think it's just as good.

    • Depends what you want to cook out of it, if it is frozen goods and smaller items a dual one is handy. (generally speaking has a larger volume as well)

If you're like me and put all sorts of things like large items as well. This i think is one of the bigger ones out there.

I have used all sorts of air fryers and must say this is the best one i have come across atm.. (i can't say in terms of longevity as i only recently bought this model)

But my family all use Philips and haven't had issues in the last 4 years.

In terms of pricing, there was a deal a few weeks back through ebay, and i got this model for $280ish with the ZIP pay code.

My friend recently bought it for $338 as well

I definitely will pay and get a Phillips if I can pay only $280 odd dollars for it. :)

OP haha, i always wondered what that hole was for.. Thanks for the find!

i bought this recently.. and i have to say these are phenomenal..

Generally speaking, i don't overfill my basket (half full is my target)

I had the older XXL and newer XXL which were also quite good.. but this blew it out of the park

My theory is, the extra size provides more airflow to circulate the heat better.

To give you an idea, my missus re-heats the soggy chips and it is close to the same as coming out of the fryer (although not exactly the same texture)

    • +1

Crowding is definitely a factor with airfryers.

  • +1

Just a clarification, the models are not the same, they have different screen displays, functionality and more onboard recipes with the probe model.

    • Whats the main difference besides the probe?
(Also is the probe compatible with this model?)

    • If you are using the Philips site to compare the models I think it's a bug because a lot of the features are in the 9880 and the 9875 doesn't seem to have them but surely it has things like Non stick coating, Dishwasher safe, on off switch, Power on Light etc.

      There are the comparisons

  • These ones are not easy to clean really

    • +1

I have the HD9880/90. It is very easy to clean. all the parts that can get dirty are removable and mostly non-stick. Hand wash whilst still warm but not hot.

  • Ended up going with this one instead of the more expensive 9880 because the navigation is more button based on this one (it has temp, time, shake reminder, keep warm and fan speed buttons), rather than having to use the turn wheel to navigate menus/settings on the 9880.

    • Is the heating element easy to clean? Is there a mesh to catch the grease?

      • +1

there is no mesh under the heating element, looks easy enough to clean

  • Geez I ummed and aahed too long. Thanks for all the info though anyway everyone.

  • Bought this and its getting returned. It isnt any better than ones a third of the price. Was disappointed how small it was. My current 1.5kg is the same size
