Victoria - Winter Weekend Getaway

Hi Everyone,

Just looking for a weekend getaway (Friday - Monday) recommendation somewhere in Victoria during the winter. We are 24 years old, not really into wine tasting.

I am aware that this question has been asked in the past several times and I have gone over them but do feel like some suggestions wouldn’t be applicable in winter.

One of the trips we did at the start of the year was Daylesford and really enjoyed Hepburn Springs, horse riding tour and ATVs/Quad Bike tour.

Would ideally prefer some sort of activities to do, if not open to a nice and chill weekend with good views.

Been to Phillip Island as well and yes it is a romantic getaway.

Would really appreciate any recommendations and once again something that can be done in winter regardless of rain.

Ballarat? Sovereign Hill? They have the “Winter Wonderlights” on now. Always a good event. And they have winter weather if that’s what your after.

  • and yes it is a romantic getaway.

    ATVs/Quad Bike tour

My wife wishes I’d take her on a romantic quad bike tour, but they’re too expensive for me

Bright/beechworth on the great alpine road. Fantastic cafes, great scenery. lots of scenic lookouts, a nice fishing spot just before harrietville. Pity you're not into wine as rutherglen has some amazing wineries.

    • I was looking at Bright, was just wondering how the drive would be in Winter. Doubt we would need snow chains or anything?

I see you're new to visiting Victorian regional towns.

          Yup completely new lol.

      • Only if you're going up to falls creek, hotham - sometimes mount buffalo gets a bit of snow as well. Not for the towns on the great alpine road, though I have seen it lightly snow in beechworth a couple of times.

        • Appreciate it, thank you!

    Spotswood.

  • Metung area, stay at the Metung country club, visit the hot springs and take the ferry to explore the area. Plenty of nice walks if that's what you're into :)

  • I've always enjoyed the beach towns in winter, like Skenes Creek or Apollo Bay

  • Visit the high country and pay the Button Man a visit in the Wonnangatta Valley.

  • Ballarat, bendigo.. anywhere with a beachworth bakery

    • Mmmmmm bee sting

  • If you liked Hepburn why not Mornington Peninsula Hot Springs?

    • Already been there, not sure if there would be much to do in Mornington for a whole weekend apart from revisiting the hot springs there.
