HELP with Current Research for Honours Thesis! (AUSTRALIAN participants only 18+)

Hi guys,

My name is Christian Woerner and I am currently conducting my Honours Research at the University of Western Sydney. As part of my Thesis I chose to conduct a "Consumer Perception" (what you Guys think…) Survey as part of my thesis. Hence I am asking you to please complete the survey (see link below).

I will be using the collected samples to finalize my honours thesis of "Perception of German goods in Australia". The survey consists of 24 Questions and will take you about 5-10 min. It would be great if you complete it and resend the link to all your friends (Please sent it to people over 18 years and that live in Australia).

So thank you for helping me out and please don't forget to resend this message to all your friends!

Thank you very much Christian P. Woerner

"I know pretty much about German cars"
    What does that mean?

I am also struggling through the whole thing with what is a German brand, perhaps you should define that first. Are we talking about owned by a German company, made in Germany or something else?

There are lots of language errors. It looks as if you have been told you should ask the same question more than once in a survey (you should), but have not understood what that means and how to do it.

In the end I got too frustrated and gave up.

To be more constructive, perhaps first solicit feedback from your peers on the structure of your survey, the language used and what information you are trying to extract.

  • its a fine survey if you know your German cars

err isnt it obvious what is a German car?

I wouldnt classify Lamborghini or Mini as german but they largley are now

    • It isn't at all obvious. Even a brand like BMW, many of the cars are not built in Germany. If you go by ownership, then lots of brands that are traditionally not 'German' (you mention a couple) now count.

So I have NO idea what this survey is about. In general the quality is poor for high school level, frankly.

  • DONE.Christian, gluck mit der these.Guys, give him a break. With a surname like Woerner, his is probably German, and translated back to English, some things get lost and we don't understand the general meaning. And Bruce…i think you'll find this is UNI LEVEL (they don't do thesis' in highschool as far as i know.He also stated which UNI he was attending).

  • Thanks guys for your support!!

Parisienne, Thanks or merci beaucoup:D Yes I am German (hehe no bias there), scales are pre-existent and tested so I cannot take credit (or blame) for the poor level of English…

Bruce, I know that the language is poor and the whole construct seems confusing. However the questions and scales used come straight out of the Marketing Scales Handbook. The repetitiveness comes from the fact that each question (even though might sound and look similar) asks different aspects of consumer perception.
These scales have been developed to specifically ask and obtain relevant information (and answer my research question) on the following topics: product familiarity, product perception, product evaluation and also to test existing product knowledge. Below I have 'attached' the scale that caused confusion (and apparently irritation). So thanks for the feedback Bruce I will be sure to enclose that in my thesis.
    So many thanks again!

    Q7) Operationalisation of Category Knowledge
Category knowledge was measured as an eight-item seven-point Likert-type rating scale, which captures subjects’ self-reported familiarity and expertise with particular product categories following Flynn and Goldsmith (1999). The authors reported alphas of .93 (Flynn and Goldsmith, 1999) and .82 (Goldsmith, 2001).
The pretest Cronbach alpha coefficients were highly significant for both categories; cars (0.94) and clothes (0.93) and slightly exceeded the values obtained by Flynn and Goldsmith. Following Flynn and Goldsmith (1999) the question was structured as below.

               Strongly Disagree :___:___:___:___:___:___:___: Strongly Agree
                                                   1 2 3 4 5 6 7

    1. I feel quite knowledgeable about cars/clothes.
    2. Among my circle of friends, I am one of the “experts” on cars/clothes.
    3. I know pretty much about cars/clothes.
    4. I do not feel very knowledgeable about cars/clothes.*
    5. Compared to most people, I know less about cars/clothes.*
    6. When it comes to cars/clothes, I really don’t know a lot.*
    7. I have heard of most of the new cars/clothes that are around.

    * reverse coded

    • Vielan Danke fur die "merci beaucoup" (carn't do umlaut's…entschuldigung).Alas,i,m not French, just a French girl in spirit (i have been there,so i know why a piece of me is still in the 18th er.)I just noticed a couple of typos in my reply earlier (his is…wtf is that ? merde )HAHAHA.AGAIN,GOOD LUCK.

  • Hey Christian,

How about at the end, telling us how many surveys were completed?

  • Hi guys thank you all again for your support…

Since posting the link on Ozbargain, I have received 40 samples. This resulting in a total of 316 collected responses. Which is the required amount for the thesis (250 target).

SO massive thank you to all you guys:D

  • just filled one out. Good luck for your thesis!

  • How is this a bargain?
