Cleanup Device Trails

Thought I'd try cleaning up my accounts, PC, Mobiles, and online trail as I never know which company is going to have a security breach next.

Just trying my luck here if anyone had the chance to do a cleanup of your accounts I.e password manager, set a specific number for work/personal/miscellaneous, delete profiles for unused accounts and adjust the info to a random name/address for accounts that are near impossible to delete.

Just wondering if anyone here had done this before and what was your way of doing it?

  • iCloud does a lot of this, though if you don't use a Mac and iPhone probably not the solution you are looking for.

  • Delete any unused accounts, especially those that contain personal data.

Then use a password manager and just systematically go through and change every password on the remaining accounts to a new random one.

    Bitwarden is good.

After this it doesn't really matter if a site has a breach, your password is uncrackable and only was used on that one site anyway,

  • I signed up for Dashlane as a password manager, though their price hikes since then would make me look elsewhere if I was starting again. It works well but doesn't automate any steps to cleanse personal info out of sites where you've previously created an account. I now treat my longstanding email address as disposable given the very high chance of further breaches by telcos, retailers etc. I also created a new email that is used exclusively for linking to my banking, mygov and password manager, so that the email address isn't being onsold or shared any further. There are also providers who create dummy email addresses that you can use for creating online accounts, though I haven't tried them - eg Dispostable.
