[Unobtainable] 200kwh Free Charging When You Link Your Linkt Membership to Chargefox Account

Moved to Forum: Original Link
Update from the Chargefox rep:

Hi Ozbargainers,

Rob from Chargefox here. We love all the Chargefox chatter. Alas, this code has now been cancelled.

The Linkt charge packs were intended for winners of a recent promotion run by Linkt. However, there was an error in the deployment, which means anyone could add it to their account.

As this was an error all those who added the code have had the credit removed from their accounts.

Link your Linkt toll account to your Chargefox account to get 200kWh free charging with 36 months to use it.

Follow the below steps to link the accounts
* Open Linkt app or website, go to account section and copy the account number.
* Open Chargefox app, go to My profile section
* Scroll down to Member programs and click add program
* Select Linkt from the list and add your Linkt account number.

From what I know Linkt is only used in NSW, VIC and QLD. Not sure if I need to mark it as targeted.
Mods, please mark it as targeted if required.

    1250Kwh with westpac

    • +6

I believe that's only if you have ev car loan with them. You can claim both and enjoy 1450kWh free charging.

      • Damn, my loan is with NRMA… I wish they had something similar.

        • Was there some reason you couldn't do your finance via novated lease ? A traditional car loan is going to be way way more expensive than an EV Novated Lease.

          • +1

@Nom: A novated lease still has a loan

            • +1

@freefall101: But an EV Novated Lease is FBT free (if under EV LCT) so the entire package amount, including the loan portion comes out pre tax. So depending on tax rate can get a flat discount of up to 45%. This is what OP is referring to over a traditional loan.

              • +2

@slimmy: You can run your novated lease loan through a westpac loan and get the free kwh of charging still. Every novated lease has a loan underlying it, the loan will be in your name (not the novated lease company) and you're responsible for repayments. It is common that the novated lease company will force you to use a specific loan product (they get kickbacks) but it's not necessary (if you own your own company, you don't even need a loan, just write up a lease agreement)

My point was there's no difference in a "traditional" loan and the loan behind a novated lease, they're both traditional loans. A novated lease is just structuring the payment of costs, that's it.

                @slimmy:

flat discount of up to 45%

Most of this savings goes to NL provider and not your pocket!

          • @Nom: a novated lease still needs a loan

      What is westpac membership?

      • +1

Even I am looking for the same; Westpac membership number. I tried my login id, cc number but no luck…

        • Found it, it's only for the customers who have a current ev car loan from Wespac

  • Thanks ops got the 200kw too.

  • Interesting

  • Nice find! Will be good for some road trips.

  • Fab - thanks OP!

    • -1

When are you back on air?

  • Thanks OP, 200kwh confirmed

  • Great share, op!

  • how far will it get me

    • 200kwh worth

    • 18kwh/100km for me

    • 1400km if it’s a Tesla base model

    • About 1200km in a Model 3.

    • +1

1.5 trips to the snow for me.
Worth around $120 for most public chargers.

    • -3

      1st base

    • currently getting 12.3kwh/100km, so 1600+ km for me

      • wow nice efficiency, what car?

        • Most probably a Model 3 Standard range

        • +1

Model Y(includes a few trips to Canberra, so highway driving), I used to get sub 12kwh/100km on my Model 3

          • @dy4me: Where do you see the kwh/100km usage?

            • +1

@MrMcHairyHead: On your Trip. Also on the main screen you can swipe left or right where the media controls/tire pressure is.

  • Seems like they intended to give them away as part of this promotion - 100 'vouchers'?

    https://www.linkt.com.au/using-toll-roads/news/win-one-of-ov…

    • Haha yeah wonder how long before we all lose our 200kwh credit!

      • -3

Would be disgraceful as there was no prompt to enter a special code or anything.

I already hate tolls and scum sucking parasites leaching off people's need to travel.

        • +3

Don't blame the toll companies. Blame the government building critical infrastructure and selling the rights to toll away for $$$

          • +3

@abetastic: Why not both? Both of them are responsible for the high price tolls.

          • @abetastic: It's how the governments look good, up front there's a big shiny new road with relatively low prices. But the rate increases cooked into the contracts mean 20 years later, we're getting screwed on it.

Plus the mistake in Melbourne of not putting in a clause about building a train to the airport - Transurban had the government by the balls on that one. It's why the citylink contract is extended out and why they got the westgate tunnel basically without a bid.

      • Fewer than two hours.

  • This is great, thanks OP!

  • Worked for me, doesn’t verify name or email match with linkt.

  • +6

i've closed my account at linkt years ago but i just used my account number from an old statement and it worked.

i guess you could just try a random 10 digit number and it might work if you don't want to open a linkt account?

    mine started with 740236

    • +4

      Great tip!
I don’t have a Linkt account, I added the first 6 numbers of yours and then added another 4 random numbers and it worked!

    • Holy moly

Thank you. I added 4 random numbers after your 6 and it worked straight away.

      Thank you so much!

      • +3

errr, i accidently added 4 numbers in front instead of behind, and it still worked…… lol

  • I got the deal before it got OzBargained! Thanks OP :)

Pretty sure this is supposed to be a competition prize - https://www.linkt.com.au/legal/rewards/charge-up-your-saving… - not available for all Linkt members.

  • It's a shame you can't be member of both Linkt and have an Etoll tag account.

You technically can but you will be charged twice for the toll, plus the service fee because the Linlt account doesn't use a tag

    • You could close your Etoll account and open a Linkt one? They have a tag account too https://www.linkt.com.au/accounts-and-passes/open-an-account…

      • I've had eToll for the last 20 years, I don't think Linkt was an option then. Is there any reason to consider one over the other?

        • One may have a better app or better website, better offers, or lower/better transaction fees when topping up your toll account.

eg Linkt has a Customer Rewards program - https://www.linkt.com.au/accounts-and-passes/rewards/sydney

But has different surcharges if you top up with Visa/Mastercard/Amex

          Linkt - https://www.linkt.com.au/help/travelling-toll-roads/what-are…
          Etoll - https://www.myetoll.transport.nsw.gov.au/help-and-faqs/merch…

But if you use direct debit instead of card, there's no fees for either.

          • @b3au: Thanks, I tend to use direct debit where possible… the surcharges are more than rewards points could ever be worth.

        • Is there any reason to consider one over the other?

Never looked into this, but one advantage based on comment above is no tag with Linkt?
The fact that Etoll charges a fee if it doesn't detect your tag is pretty shit IMO. In the age of hi-res cameras and image recognition there is no reason for a tag. Even less to charge your customers for using outdated tech. The stupid part is that they don't charge motorbikes a fee for no tag, only cars. That makes no sense since they cold just use the exact same process as bikes to do number plate recognition.

          • @1st-Amendment: Linkt offer different products with different fees - https://www.linkt.com.au/accounts-and-passes/open-an-account…

They have a tag account, like Etoll.
They also have a tagless account, where you pay

$0.55 – $0.75 vehicle matching fee per trip

But you don't have a deposit/account balance like a tag account.

It'll depend on how often you travel as to whether it's worth charging imo

      • I don't want to close my Etoll account as it's dead easy to use.

To open a Linkt account I have to pay a fee then wait for a tag etc. Not worth the hassle.

Plus I see one clever person has discovered you can enter a random ten digit member code on the Chargefox app so I'll try that instead.

        • I have to pay a fee then wait for a tag etc.

You just said above that Linkt doesn't use a tag? I have Etoll but I'll switch if it mean no more dicking around with physical tags,

          • @1st-Amendment: With Linkt you can choose to have no tag but then they’ll charge you a “vehicle identification fee”

  • WTF are tolls?
    Im from Adelaide

    • +1

When you want a highway that has lanes that can go in two directions at once, then a private company will build it and charge you a toll to fund it.

      • +1

For a smaller city Adelaide has heaps of traffic

      • When you want a highway that has lanes that can go in two directions at once, then a private company will build it and charge you a toll to fund it.

Then some people will complain that they have to pay for the new shiny thing that they choose to use. They then demand that other people should pay for it instead so that they can use it for free.

    • -2

I'd heard Adelaide is a bit of a dump, but I thought you'd at least get TV there!

      • +1

Yeah we tell the douchebags in the filthy eastern cities that so they'll stay on the eastern coast.

Please keep spreading this for us mate, cheers :D

        • +1

Hmm, in that case you should probably tell Tourism Adelaide, as they're wasting a whole heap of your tax dollars on targeted ads begging me to come there.

    • +1

I guess you don't know what a formula 1 race is by that logic

  • Thanks Op. Got it.

  • Thanks got it

  • -4

scam, use any 10 digit and it will work….

    • +9

I don't think thats how a scam works..

      • lol ozbargain people are so touchy.
Lets put any 10 digit in,
get 200kw which will be revoked.

        Not scammed.

    • thanks for the tip!

  • Hmmm if I charge using the free chargefox. Will the app deduct the quota?

    • +1

According to the T&Cs, yes free charging comes out of the 200kWh

(If it's supposed to be a competition prize and not available to everyone)

  • +3

Great deal, i'm trying to last as long as possible without spending a cent on powering my EV.
Only 2000km in so far and haven't spent a cent (Ovo Energy 3 free hour plan gets the job done easily).

This will help a lot for when I go on trips.

  • Didn't have a Linkt account, made one but it says there was an error saving my payment details and isn't giving an account number :(

  • Does normally free charging consume the credit

    • +1

Once activated, the offer is kWh hours only, and any consumption after the activating the offer (including any free charging) will form part of the kWh consumption and be at no cost to you.

  • +1

Thanks OP, got some free charging.

  • +2

Probably need to treat this like those 711 pricing errors. Charge while you got it!

  • +1

Thanks OP, offer worked for me.

  • +1

    Thanks OP worked for me

  • +1

Awesome - am looking at hiring an EV in a few weeks time.

    • Watch out for the trap of not returning it with full charge. Since you use charge to get from your last charge point back to the rental depot it ill never be 100% when you get there, and some companies have stung their customers a fee for this: https://www.drive.com.au/news/hertz-accused-of-charging-elec…

      • Thanks, I searched for this and will ask about it specifically when I pick it up

  • +1

Thanks OP! Followed your instructions and all linked - shows up as having 200 kWh available now on my Chargefox profile

  • +1

Thanks OP, I saw this competition last week and couldn't be bothered but will take it as a guaranteed freebie!
Only down side for me is my local woolies has a free bank of AC chargefox chargers so I can't use those now or I'll burn my free credit which would be better served on a road trip.
Yes, creating a new additional account to take advantage of the free chargers would be the proper ozbargain way. haha

  • Cheers, just worked for me! :D

  • how does it work… they charge and reimburse or you just charge and it will take from the quota?

    • My understanding is they will use the free quota before charging your card. Haven't used it yet, can't confirm.

  • +1

Does anyone have any tips on the other member programs in Chargefox we could use?

  • Thank you!

  • +2

    Data collection exercise for Linkt/Transurban

    • Based on other comments you can try with any random ten digits if you are too worried about Linkt knowing where you charged.
