May as well pick up a North Korean Madusan as well.

    • At least VinFast are good enough to be sold in the US market. GWM will never be sold there.

      • +2

You should read the reviews when they came out, terrible quality, even less quality than american made cars

        • +1

That was only on the initial models, the first model year. Things have improved greatly on the current ones.

      • At least VinFast are good enough to be sold in the US market

Yeah but we see the kinds of cars that Americans love.

      • that is pure political. Politics will never win over market laws.

  • +1

    Weird looking 🚗

  • Good value if you have a solar roof and need to commute.

My wife saw this car and fell in love with it, so this will make her happy

    • +4

      My wife loves hers

    • +2

      So she doesn't love you?

    • -5

      Does she know it's Chinese?

      • +4

She does and couldn’t care less

  • +1

Can't stop thinking of Jojos Bizare Adventure when I see Ora

  • +2

I always feel Chinese cars never have any design cohesion. The front doesn't look too bad, but the rear seems like an afterthought.

BYDs are the same or the interiors are just plain tacky

    • +1

This looks like a squashed porsche, but like it's ugly half brother

The Yangwang U9 though looks sublime

    • +2

Designed by former Porsche designer Emanuel Derta, according to Google search results.

  • +2

Test drove one earlier this year but it struggled transferring the little power it had to the road and had quite a lot of wheelspin. Maybe better tires would fix it, but who knows. And while small, it's fairly wide, so not even an advantage for tight parking lots

    • +6

My wife has one and has no trouble embarassing v8 hoons at the lights. She calls it her sleeper :-)

      • +2

I hear they will feature in the next fast and furious. FF: recharged.

      • My wife has one and has no trouble embarassing v8 hoons at the lights

Ora 0-100 is 8.5 seconds. V8 Commodore (as an example) is 5.3 seconds.
        You are dreaming.

        • Off the mark is a different story though. Immediate power and full torque from the get-go.
But by the time you've past the intersection, said Commodore will have passed you.

it looks great I dunno what the ugly comments are on about. kind of like any other small car but a bit more stylish?

maybe the back looks a bit weird with the single line brake light but that's normal for all electric cars isn't it ? they want anyone driving behind to KNOW that it's an electric car.

    • +3

I recommended it to my wife 6 months ago when she was looking precisely because of the looks. It stands out from the crowd

      • +1

yeah but what I mean though is from a distance the general shape and front does look like many other small cars.

not sure why this one is so ugly.

if someone said "small cars are ugly" then I could understand it a bit better.

    • It's the elliptical headlights, they don't really belong on a car from this decade. The MINI and Porsche 911 can get away with it because of their heritage. The Ora on the other hand has zero heritage so what on earth is it doing with those fugly lights?

      • +1

The designer of the Ora is ex-Porsche: Emanuel Derta

    • I dunno what the ugly comments are on about

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I'm not a fan, but I do appreciate the originality factor. New cars are so bland these days, so I encourage the original design, even if it's a little quirky.

      • what I noticed about many new cars is they all like the squinty eyed style lights with VENTS (seems like one company maybe toyota or something kicked this off and now every car is doing it). I have seen many small cars which aren't supposed to be a race car but with multiple vents in the bumpers.

This is one of the most advanced cars for females. It is designed for women. They love the tech and find it cute and also very fast. That is why in China, it's called a Good Cat car. In Western countries we call a Cat a Poosy. But the term (Poosy) also is a vulgar way of calling female genitalia so they changed the name to Ora. I hope this post has helped many people.

    • +1

      Poosy. lol

      • Ora or Cat, don't know which is more wired for a car

  • -1

Jaymate reckons these are hotter than his 2005 Toyota Clown

  • The base model use LFP battery which is safer and less likely to catch fire, while the higher model actually use Ternary Lithium battery which have higher energy density but more dangerous to use in EV.

  • -8

    planned obsolescence…..sigh

    • +2

Yeah like all cars since day dot.

  • apparently this model doesn't sell well in its domestic market and has been discontinued

    • misleading. different models black cat were discontinued in 2022. This one good cat is not.

    $30K we talk

The name just begs the question - GWM Ora.. (insert almost any other car here)

    • You will get the L later

  • who drives this thing?

      People who buy this thing.

got EV Mercedes. I'll see myself out!

  • +2

I just Googled it, and this car sells for only 20,000 AUD in China…

    • +6

      But you not in China

    • +2

Considering the shipping cost, a 70x smaller population, their local subsidies, economies of scale etc, doesn't seem too unreasonable.

Not the only brand/car that costs more here than overseas…

    • +2

Do you realise how much Vegemite costs in China?

    • Rofl a 20k EV, good luck with that.

    • +1

this car sells for only 20,000 AUD in China…

Is it the same car though? When I was in the US I looked at some cars that had very cheap sticker prices, but on closer inspection the cheap models were completely stripped of all stuff you want. I think our market being smaller only tends to import the upper spec models in the range, so the base model sticker prices look higher, but our base model tends to be the higher spec version than other markets. Once you tick the options boxes to get them to the same level they get a lot closer.

  • +2

get it below 30k and maybe we can discuss further.
The name of these and the BYDs reminds of some of the early Japanese efforts, like the Nissan Cedric, or Mitsubishi Starion.

  • +1

so I am guessing the Luxury variant is called "OraL"?

  • (profanity) hideous.
But generally a good thing. Get this base model below 30k and now we're talking.

  • I still think Kia should have made this car. Would sell really well in New Zealand.

  • I see lots of MG4 and Atto3 on the road.

I have yet to see an Ora over the past year. They must be desperate.

    • +1

I can see once per week? Less than Seal btw. ATTO3 x 10

  • ignoring the round headlights, if you squint it looks like a 2013 Pulsar side profile
    .

I won’t say anything nasty because I will get banned for hurting someone’s feels but I will say ev drivers are

Went to Krabi, Thailand early this year, and see heaps of this car over there… Seems quite popular and stylish.

  • GWM?
    BMW?
    Chinese version of BMW?
    /joke 😅

    • TIL

BMW stands for Bayerische Motoren Werke according to google.

so GWM might be Glycine Werke Motoren? it runs on glycine?
