Beko BFLB904ADW Washing Machine - Advertised Feature Not Included

Hi OZB,

We bought a beko washing machine

https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/beko-bflb902adw-9kg-auto-dose-front-load-washing-machine-white
https://www.appliancesonline.com.au/product/beko-9kg-autodos…

One of the features we wanted was for it to have an illuminated drum. However, it never worked since day 1. We figured we were doing something wrong.

After a few months of trial and error I decided to give beko a call and found that even though the model was advertised to have this feature (its even mentioned in the manual - and it is not an optional feature) they now claim the Australian version does not have it. I feel this is inappropriate as the manual clearly states the functionality but now beko denies it ever existed. Manual if you're interested - pg 37 section 6.16 Drum Illumination.

Isn't this false advertising?

I'm pissed about how much companies can get away with doing anything. The rep on the phone said it must have been an error and that their current documentation removes any mention of this feature.

Anyway to escalate this? WWYD?

Thanks for reading :)

Genuine question…………..Why would you want an illuminated drum?

    • +2

I'm wondering also. Maybe it's to satisfy a kink of watching underwear being washed.

Edit: I just checked - there is a subreddit for that so I'm running with this theory.

    • So that you can see inside the washing machine without having to light up the laundry or use the flash on your mobile phone? It's the same reason you have illumination in the microwave, air fryer, etc.

      Should look like this:

Once you have had an illuminated drum, you'll never go back. I did and I really miss it, the next machine will have an illuminated drum! The same for the dryer.

We got 'screwed' by Bosch. The older washer/dryer serious 8 units had illuminated drums, the newer ones don't!

Go to JB and tell them you bought this unit because of the illuminated drum as advertised on their website (or printed material) or highlighted by their sales person. After not being able to get it working you've contacted Beko who've informed you that it doesn't exist on the Australian model. You would now like a refund so that you can purchase another model with the illuminated from.

Yes i want to purchase the model with the illuminated from , which doesnt exist in Australia !

      • I'm confused. Where's it from?

  • +1

There's no mention of this on Beko's website, nor is it included in user manual version 28/12/2022 accessible from Beko support. JB's disclaimer: Information on this Website may contain typographical errors, technical inaccuracies or other errors and may not be accurate, complete or current.

That’s what I mean. They’ve updated it after my purchase. Here’s a photo of my manual

      https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/29505/113870/img_2260.…

It talks about it as a feature that was meant to be there.

      • How long have you owned the washing machine?

        • +1

It’s less than 8 months old

          • @hashtagbargain: Did you purchase the machine off the JBHifi website, or in store? If in store was it picked up or delivered?

          • +3

@hashtagbargain: There is no doubt you probably got shafted on the drum illumination.

However, now that the machine is 8 months old, what are you expecting out of pursuing Beko / JB Hi-Fi?
A brand new machine with drum illumination?

            • +3

@DoctorCalculon: I agree. They got screwed, but that ship has sailed now.

I feel their time for a return was within the first few months at most…. 8 months later is a bit too long.

      • Can you share a photo of the front cover of that manual?

    illuminated drum

We had this on our old Bosch and it was amazing. The new Bosch doesn't have it and I miss it.

    Isn't this false advertising?

If it was a feature, then yes!

I'm pissed about how much companies can get away with doing anything. The rep on the phone said it must have been an error and that their current documentation removes any mention of this feature.

Is this correct? It could have been a mistake at the time, which doesn't make it any better. But does the latest manual have this feature?

The original Beko auto dose model, the BFL853ADW had an illuminated drum. It was problematic as the machine would go out of balance and the wiring would snap. I left Beko before the BFLB904ADW was released so I'm going to assume they removed the illuminated light for the Australian market but someone forgot to update the manual.

Note: I am no longer associated with Beko, ex-employee, left approx. 2.5 years ago.

    • @Capo93 why did you leave? Would you still recommend Beko units though?

      • +1

I left Beko to pursue my own business in a different industry. I still have a small appliance repair business that I had when I was at Beko. Still to this day I use Beko dishwashers for all my real estate landlords.

If you’re in that budget price range of LG, Samsung, F&P etc I would recommend to look at Beko, it’s hard to look past their 5 year warranty(I know you have ACL, but that’s 5 years without arguing with them) - if you have the money for a premium brand I would say take Miele.

Things could have changed since I was there but 2.5 years ago I would have said stay away from Beko induction cooktops and heat pump dryers, they just had teething issues.

The company that owns Beko, Arçelik/Koç Holdings is a massive company, the appliance market in Australia is just so cut throat with tight margins. Freight and taxes are a killer.

I have one of those neat looking black door jobbies.
Can't see a dam thing…but now I want to fit LEDs inside and wire it up to a vibration sensor…similar to pulsing to music.

Well I think it look neat….

But I do sympathize… it should be as advertised, even thou the disclaimer negates almost all advertised specs.

Walked past my dryer the other night and noticed it had an illuminated drum. Thought that was pretty cool and showed the wife who had seen it a hundred times already.
