Only two weeks after its launch the entry petrol version has been reduced

    I will wait for 52 weeks 😂

  • +20

They realised that flooding the market with cheap cars hasn't won enough people over to be able to jack up prices yet😂

      • +10

I know. The petrol used to be under 20k.

        • +3

So they jacked the price then 😂

          • +3

@HolyCr4p: Yes. The extra jack I meant was the "saving" that this post is about

          • @HolyCr4p: That was an old platform, this is a brand new model (the old one was first released in like 2011 in China). Price jacked as they needed to update heavily for new safety standards

        • +2

Adding Android Auto put the price up $6K!!! Someone is winning. Not the drivers….

    • +2

No matter how you look at it, it's still a Chinese car. It's not about image but proven track records needed to win consumer sentiments.

    • Then you haven't checked the sales figures, from memory MG was about #7 for the best selling car brands in Australia for 2023. Though the MG3 is crap and does nothing good for the brand, the ZS is average and the ZST/HS are actually great cars for the money in petrol. Have not driven the EV variants yet.

      • +1

MG4 EV is selling very well in Australian market, compared to other similar small EVs such as BYD Dolphin and GWM Ora.

        • I have an mg4 as a work fleet vehicle. It's excellent

      • This is a completely new version of the MG3. Completely agree that the old one was horseshit though

        • +1

Oh ok interesting, i'll have to take a closer look at the new one. Good to know the new MG3 has addressed some of the shortcomings.

  • +20

    Excite?
    I hardly think so

  • +2

Why does this car look straight out of GTA Online?

    • +1

that's post-2020 car design for you… looking at BMW portfolio like what the f is going even….

  • +25

Horrible sh1tboxes that shouldn't be allowed on the roads. Avoid !

    • +9

I agree. Using it currently as a rental car (didn't chose it). Probably goes to 100kmph (if it does) in like 30sec or longer. Reverse camera is shit as well (nearly bumped into a pole following it). Will report back on other features soon..

      • Don't forget the slushbox gearbox thats come straight from the 1970's and the engine power that might put an original Fiat 500 to shame

      • The engine sounds so wheezy and horrible under acceleration, I've heard them drive off from the lights.

      • I think your head is the problem, not the car. Watching Australia dash cams I've realised that the line of madness between the uploader and the one recorded is invisible, equally mental.

No one has patience, bit of understanding, fixing other people's mistakes, anticipation to brake, observe. It's just pedal to metal, music to the max, instantaneously swearing and me, me, meeeeeeee!

    (profanity) rubbish car

  • +4

    Junk junk Junk

  • +4

good deal maybe, but the MG3 rental i had was the worst car i have ever driven.

    • Ditto, wipers weren't working except on max and it was completely gutless when faced with an incline.

  • +2

    Should be under $20k

  • +21

New Swift Hybrid from $24,500 driveaway is much better. Most reviews found real world fuel economy close to claimed.

    • Agree

    • +4

And it's manual as well. Very hard to find on a hybrid.

      • +1

would be cool with a turbo, hopefully we'll see that on the new Swift sport if they ever launch one

      • +11

Best thing about the manual (besides being fun to drive) is the Millennial Immobiliser that's standard.

        • +1

          (profanity) lol

        • +3

Foil youth criminals with this one weird trick!

  • +1

Wouldn't be surprised to see this variant dip below $20k or get axed entirely. Gutless wonder. The hybrid is apparently quite impressive (notwithstanding the baffling decision not to have a split folding rear seat).

  • +1

Though updated, there is so much better competition at or close to this price … Suzuki Swift, Kia Stonic, Hyundai Venue or a used car from a class above.

  • +1

    Oh noes
The unlimited money printer turned off

Yes the car may be average af but they need the bottom end cars to drag the pricing down.

  • Saw a broken down MG on the way into the city yesterday. Felt kinda bad for the driver.

  • +4

Car prices getting ridiculous after COVID :(

    • +1

      💯…

  • +5

    Still about 5K overpriced.

  • +7

Please get a second hand Toyota/ Korean car instead.

  • The old one is much cheaper

  • +7

Negging because this car shouldn't be offered for sale new in Australia in 2024, and thus isn't a deal. It's genuinely unsafe, and poorly built to the point where it will likely be in a wreckers yard in under a decade - a massive waste of resources that should have gone into a car that doesn't feel like a sardine tin with wheels. Put your 25k into pretty much anything else.

    • +2

One advantage of having low priced cars is that it forces in some part other car manufacturers to drop their prices. In a way it is competition. We have been ripped off enough by car manufacturers and dealers since COVID, so anything to bring prices down is welcomed.

  • +7

Took my son to the dealers to try the old model as I figured for a first car you couldn't go wrong with 7 years warranty .
    I was wrong .

    • Broke down and wouldn’t repair under warranty?

      • He didn't buy it , It was awful to drive .
That was less than 2 years ago and they were 18 or 19k drive away then . Even at that it seemed poor value .

  • +4

For anyone considering one of these:

Just get a Picanto or a Swift instead

  • Warning!!! The hybrid battery is too small and makes this car dangerous to drive Drive one and you will thank me later.

    • How does it make it dangerous? Pls substantiate

      • +1

When you need to overtake on a freeway then you lose the hybrid power half way and retreat the failed overtake. Unsafe.

        • It adds 2.6kw . If thats the difference between what makes it safe and unsafe your probably line balling it and should just wait another few seconds .

  • +1

When this car launched they invited influencers to promote it all over thier socials and gave them a goodie bag of freebies to win them over. Yikes steer clear. Do not touch with a 10 ft pole. Swift is 100x times better and will last longer.

  • +2

A lucrative 5% discount! Wow lucky they aren't open on Sunday night or I might have raced down to the dealer straight away to bag such a screaming deal…

  • +3

    These cars are rubbish, avoid.

  • Glad I got the previous model instead of waiting for this one..

  • +1

MG used to be good but these are rubbish. Wouldn't take one for $10k

    • +1

Now 100% chinese rubbish. Nothing's UK about them at all.

      • Better than the British rubbish but still rubbish

      • I normally get negged for those comments but 💯!
I almost bought one but called the dealership asking where they were made at my grandad used to drive one but they said the ones imported to Australia are all from China despite MG having other factories globally

    • MG were always rubbish, they're just rubbish from another continent now

    • Then you’ve never owned an audi or bmw that oftentimes have problems

      • Heh or a Mercedes

        • Heh or falcon vs commodore. Along with cheap Japanese cars folks, that folks would come soon, too. lol

    • I have never ever seen a broken-down German car anywhere.

      You serious mate?
Volkswagen? Audi? Quality and those brands do not really go hand in hand.

    • How about in Germany?

    • And I have never seen a broken down MG (The Chinese one) that doesnt mean anything either. Never seen a Wallaby fart either….

  • These are absolute dog shit, don't waste your money or compromise your/loved ones' safety.
