    Cheers, bought the s6

  • Are these better than the Ctek MXS 5.0?

    • -1

Is ctek the slow charge one.

I think it was called continous charge or something?

      Can't remember

      • +1

Trickle charging, but that's only when the main charging cycle nearly comes to an end.

    • +2

      No way. I own both.

      • Why is the CTEK better? The mode button on mine stopped working

        • I've had two cteks over 7 or 8 years and both of their the mode buttons have stopped working :(

        • I had this too, replaced under warranty and the button is now red, maybe an updated revision.

    • My two Ctek xms5 & xms7 are 10yrs old and work like the first day I bought them. Still servicing 3 cars, 1 4x4, and one MC (and anyone else that needs a charger to borrow).

I find the cteks are well known tested and pass muster on the design and components used. That's enough for me to trust connecting them my expensive vehicles.

This Gooloo is unknown to me and untill some tests and reviews from trustworthy sources come out. I mean quality checks not just on performance but also protection and components.

So you know what they say, "if you don't know,, vote no…"

But I get some people like to buy cheap everything. You're free to pick and choose.

Not sure if its the fault of the MXS 5 but I had it connected to my motorcycle battery for about 6 months.
Before I parked the bike the battery worked, and now it seems to be crooked. Voltage dropping to 6V and obviously not starting.
So from my anecdotal evidence, CTEC didn't keep my battery from dying in storage

Can these be used to revive a dead power tool battery? Has anyone tried that?

    • +7

hey mate, I don't know if these chargers don't push current unless they detect a load (they probably do) but to revive a power too battery it generally takes a few steps.

here's what I did for some old dead ryobi 18v lithium batts.

1: open em up outside on a bench that if it caught on fire would not be tooooo problematic.
2: run the mulitmeter over each cell (write it down)
3: if they were all pretty close in voltage, I would put a current to the lithium cells themselves, NOT through the battery's terminals as in this case the BMS had said the cells were too low to safely charge.
4: after about 5 minutes I measured everything again.
5: screw the cover back on and pop it into the ryobi charger. Now that the voltage was higher, the BMS let them charge.
6: I put a sticker on each of the batteries I revived this way and I never leave them in the charger unattended.

3 of the 4 dead ryobi batteries I managed to recover this way. the 4th one had one dead cell and I decided to just harvest the good 18650's for my torches.

      • Hey thanks for sharing this! I'll definitely give this a try. I have an Ozito 18v 4ah battery that won't charge. I have tried reviving it by connecting the terminals to a healthy battery of similar capacity, but it still won't charge. I'll try popping it open and do it by the cells like you suggested. Cheers!

        • Have U tried swapping at Bunnings?

          • @mmd: It's out of warranty period unfortunately

      • I managed to recover this way

When you say "recover", how much 'life' are you injecting back into said battery?

How long or how much use can you get out of it?

Are you able to 'recover' them again, after the first recovery or do the batteries degrade over time, that recovery is also a diminishing effort (or is it dangerous?) ?

Whats the difference between s6 and 6a?

  • +2

i got the s6 about 6 months ago for like $80 and its really good, a steal at $40

    • +1

Still great value at $49.99 when they were available.

    • +1

where can you get one for $40?

  • Perfect.

Gotta be Better than the $50 eBay PoS I just returned that didn't behave as advertised.

  • Can these do lifepo4 batteries? S6 says so in description but would love to hear any personal experiences!

    • Works great for lifepo4 in my 4 years of use so far.

  • whats the best one for a regular car battery with a 1-2 months no driving?

    • +1

Your battery might already be dead if no driving. This is a good jump starter then.

      • +2

Sorry should've said I plan to go away for 1-2 months so I need something to maintain the battery while in the garage

        • Can you run a little solar panel to it.
They are pretty cheap and the cords are generally about 2 or 3m long so doesn't have to be parked in the sun.

          • @DarwinBoy: Im thinking between a solar panel and something like a NOCO device

      • I wish this would go on sale , and then I'll get this.

I bought the 2000A Goloo, about 5-6 years ago (on OzB deal for $100 ), and it's been a life-saver.

  • Thanks, Got one. Was waiting for ages on a good deal to charge car’s battery

    • +1

If you charge it regularly with a smart charger, you will get more life out of the battery as it removes the sulfar deposits that eventually cause the battery to fail.

  • +1

I had a bad experience with my gooloo, I hooked it up to my car in the garage as a maintenance charger as I only drive that car once a month. I came back 4 days later and the battery was bulging, I could literally hear the battery acid boiling.

  • Not sure of the quality but this YDBAO can do 10A for about the same price, $38.99, while the S6 is OOS.

    • +2

      Doesn't look LifePo4 Compatible.

      • The use of lithium batteries is prohibited.

Yeah wonder why this GOOLOO is much more expensive in RRP.

    • "Power should be cut off if the charging time exceeds 12 hours without supervision." Doesn't sound like a safe trickle charger/maintainer

  • +1

Weird I can't get the promo code to work for the 6A

  • +4

same, promo code a NooGo on the GooLoo :-)

  • +1

The code not working for me

  • +1

6 amps to charge a 100 amp lithium is going to take over 24 hours. Better off buying a 15-40amp plus charger.

    • +1

Depends on your needs. In most cases I don't mind slow and steady for my infrequently used camping battery.

  • +2

Wait for victron 5amp to go on special. Does lithium and has Bluetooth to give a history of charging.

  • +1

its not working for me. The code is invalid. Is it still working for anyone else? I am thinking of getting the 6a, is it worse than the 6s?

  • Do the reconditioning features actually work?

  • Code also not working for me

  • How is the quality of a similar generic 240V charger which is very cheap

I bought one off aliexpress where you can find that brand quite commonly. Although I did buy the 7-stage 12V/10A charger instead of the 3 stage in your link. It has 4.8/5 star rating from 148 reviews. It works fine although I do not have anything else to compare it with.

      • You much did you pay for the 7 stage 12V/10A?

Is the so called pulse repair function a scam or does it work to some extent

        • +1

          21USD
          Haven't used that function.
Mainly used to fully charge the 12V battery in toyota hybrid every few weeks or so. The hybrid has quite a small capacity compared with batteries in other non-hybrid vehicles and there have been not infrequent stories of dead battery issues for this model after hardwiring a dashcam.

  • Can these charge AGM batteries?
