Recommendations for a Pool Pump

Unfortunately my ancient pool pump has sprung a leak today and is seeming like it's on it's last legs.

I have a 75kl pool with a salt chlorinator, the old one was likely underperforming for the size of the pool.

Old pool pump specs:
Q 165-320L/min
Qmax 340L/min
0.75kW/1.0HP
2900r/min

I'm not sure what specs I should be looking for in a new pool pump but have seen other 1.0HP pumps recommended for pools around 45kl instead.

Have also seen a huge price difference between branded and private label pool pumps on ebay/amazon too, would prefer to go with a budget option if it's not that much of a difference.

Any recommendations for a good pump for me is highly appreciated.

Thank you!

    Get an electric one.

Is it leaking from the shaft? You could get a seal kit, some bearings and give it an overhaul.

    • It's leaking from the impeller, seems like the plastic is a little warped, I tried tightening the nuts around it but didn't really help

      • Did you mean the pump bowl which goes over the impeller? It could just be a bad o-ring which is easy to replace.

        • I’ve taken a picture of it here, it’s on the underside of the part I circled in red

@thewiseone: It's either got a crack in it or an issue with the o-ring. Pull it apart and check. If you're replacing it you've got nothing to loose.

Check with a nearby pump service workshop. They often have reburbished pumps with limited warranty for somewhat cheaper than a new one.

    What brand is the chlorinator?

    • Chlorinator is a saltmate

I got my last replacement pump off facebook marketplace for $30. 3 years on and it is still going strong.

    • Great idea! What brand is it?

  • When my pump died, I replaced it with exactly the same model so it wouldn’t need any plumbing changes. I was surprised how easy it was. If you’re comfortable to redo the plumbing, then this may not be relevant, but otherwise you may have to pay a plumber or pool serviceman on top of the pump cost

    • Doesn't seem like that's an option for me, can't find anything about this one when googling the model number and brand, must be discontinued. Will probably have to pay for someone to replumb it

What does your local pool shop recommend?

Any chance youd upgrade to solar powered pump? Wish id done that a couple of years ago. I baulked at the cost and im sure with rising spark prices the cost difference has evaporated.
